ִֶ ..𓂃 🥀་ ༘࿐ "i told you it's a fucking bad idea." ⸻ @chrislaplante . (author!verse, i hate it here.)
she drags in a breath so sharp it leaves her lightheaded, the edges of the room blurring for just a second. it’s getting harder to steady herself lately. the comedowns stretch longer, heavier; anger lingering under her skin like something alive, something waiting for the right moment to claw its way out. this was never what she wanted. to rot like this. to feel like something festering. and yet, it’s all she knows now. maybe it’s the way his face twists when chris says it. maybe it’s the weight he puts on the words: it’s a fucking bad idea. it loops in her head, over and over, louder each time, until it’s less memory and more noise. before she can stop it, she’s glaring at him, something sharp and ugly carving through what used to be soft. once, her face had been all warmth. now it cuts. her jaw tightens. she shuts her eyes. tries, really fucking tries, to talk to him like a person. like him. because even now, after everything, he’s still the love of her life. he looks different, sounds different, treats her different, but somewhere under all of that, it’s still chris. it has to be. “can you just⸺” her voice comes out rougher than she means, a thin edge of anger slipping through before she can catch it. she swallows hard, forcing it down, trying to smooth over the damage before it spreads. “i don’t want to fight, alright?” the fight drains out of her as quickly as it came, leaving something quieter. weaker. better than tearing him apart. “just… take a breath. talk to me.” her voice softens, but it trembles now, fraying at the edges. “we don’t have to do this. we don’t have to keep going at each other like this, ani.” a pause. smaller now. “i just want to talk to you.” her throat tightens, words catching before she forces them out. “i just want to figure this out. we can’t keep going in circles forever.” and then, barely holding together, “please.”

ִֶ ..𓂃 🥀་ ༘࿐ ♱ chris playfully pins helena down while they wrestle. ⸻ @chrislaplante .
it starts the way most things do these days, with a joke. things aren’t what they used to be. not even close. but sometimes, in these rare, fleeting moments, what they are now doesn’t feel quite so bittersweet. this is one of those moments. helena can’t remember who started it, some stupid back and forth over text about who could take who in a fight, but it’s what led them here. her living room. the quiet scrape of wood against wood as she shoves the couch back with a firm push, carving out space in the center of the floor. enough room to prove something. enough room to pretend. when she steps back and looks at it; open, cleared, nothing fragile left within reach, she feels a flicker of satisfaction. a battlefield, carefully prepared.
the deal had been simple: loser buys dinner.
helena already knows how she wants her steak cooked.
after that, everything moves too fast. chris knocks. she answers. and there they are again; those stupid, traitorous butterflies, alive and restless in her chest and stomach like nothing had ever broken between them. like time hadn’t done what it did. they fall into easy banter, circling each other with teasing threats and half smiles, arguing over who’s going to win. helena plays her part, chin tilted, confidence worn like armor but the second he smirks, really smirks, something in her falters. those blue eyes. for a moment, she forgets how to breathe. still, she takes her stance across from him, trying to look tougher than she feels. trying to focus on winning. but the truth is: she just wants him close.
they collide in a burst of laughter and motion. chris does exactly what she expects, stretching that long arm out, palm planted firmly against her forehead to keep her at a distance. it’s unfair. it’s so him. and she grins through the challenge, adrenaline already sparking through her veins. her fingers snap around his wrist, searching, precise, finding that pressure point like muscle memory. one sharp twist, one deliberate press, and his arm gives. the look on his face is worth it. before he can recover, she sweeps his legs out from under him, sending him crashing to the floor in one clean movement. the impact knocks a breathless laugh from both of them, and she’s already moving, climbing over him and settling on top, locking her legs tight around his waist to pin him down. victory blooms bright and wild across her face. “not such a tough guy now, are you?” it lasts all of two seconds. because then he moves. it’s quick, too quick. a shift, a twist, and suddenly everything flips. helena’s back hits the floor, the air rushing out of her lungs as the world tilts, reverses, and settles with chris above her instead. her legs are still wrapped around him, but now… now he’s the one in control.
she stares up at him, wide eyed, breath coming faster than she’d like. his hands find her wrists, pinning them above her head with an ease that makes something low in her stomach tighten. she doesn’t know where to look. not when he’s looking at her like that. her gaze flickers; his eyes, his mouth and she swallows hard, chest rising and falling beneath him. he’s unfairly beautiful like this, flushed with adrenaline, brown curls falling loose around his face, lips just a little too pink. too close. her thighs shift around him, restless, heat pooling where their bodies meet. it builds, quiet, insistent, until she can’t quite keep still, her hips lifting just slightly, chasing something she doesn’t want to name. the sound that slips out of her is soft. unintended. but he hears it. of course he does. chris dips down, drawn in like gravity, and kisses her. it’s immediate; hungry, unrestrained, and helena meets him just as fiercely, chasing the taste of him, trying to close whatever distance is left between them. but his hold on her wrists keeps her pinned, keeps her wanting, keeps her reaching for something just out of grasp. it only makes it worse. better.
his movement answers hers, subtle, deliberate, and the friction sends a sharp, breathless sound into his mouth. he knows. he always knows. and he leans into it, into her, giving just enough to make her feel it, to make her ache for more. she could ask. she could beg. but there’s something dangerously intoxicating about letting him take the lead, about trusting him to read every unspoken thing her body gives away. he always has. chris shifts again, gathering both her wrists into one hand, tightening his grip as his other hand drifts; slow, deliberate, mapping her like he’s relearning something he never really forgot. from the brush of her cheek to the curve of her neck, down to where his hand lingers over her heartbeat hammering against its cage like it were desperate to fit inside his palm. like it belongs there.
her breath stutters. a quiet sound slips free. he keeps going. lower. careful. unhurried. like he has all the time in the world to ruin her. down over the swell of her chest and to the soft cushion of her stomach. over hills and valleys, daring to go lower as helena fights the need for air. she writhes; desperate. needy. his fingers tease just below the waistband of her shorts. she thinks she just might die. please, she spells out with a kiss. more, she bites against his lower lip. his hand sinks lower, dipping under the fabric of her underwear until he’s greeted with what he always knew he would find there: her. warm, tender. soaked. she breathes out a gasp as the cold tips of his fingers press against her and he teases where she needs him most: at the very center of her. now, they both know how this ends. not with a winner. but with him unraveling her completely and claiming a victory that has nothing to do with the fight at all.
[TXT] : are you alone? ⸻ @chrislaplante (mv)
he’s never really alone. even when it looks that way, there’s always someone watching, waiting for the right moment to reach out and snatch him by the collar. maybe that’s why he’s always so bristled, wound tight like he’s expecting it, like he’s just waiting for the snap that’ll drag him back into some dark corner. his knee bounces as he sits beneath the long, drooping branches of a tree, his back pressed to the rough bark. his brown eyes track the moon through breaks in the clouds, and he lets out a quiet sigh as the weight of the day settles deep into his bones. he won’t be getting much sleep tonight. not that he ever really does. his mind won’t shut up; thoughts racing, colliding, climbing over one another, burying the ones he isn’t ready to face just yet. he lets his eyes fall shut for a moment, letting the cool night air cling to his skin, trying to let it pull him somewhere quieter. it almost works. then his phone vibrates from where it rests in the grass beside him. the sound cuts through everything. it’s stupid, the way his mouth pulls into a smile when he sees chris’s name light up the screen. even more stupid how he makes himself wait a second before replying, like that might make it seem like he cares less than he does. his tongue flicks over the ring in his lower lip as he types, slow and deliberate.

it's a kind of worship, the way he touches her - like helena is both altar and offering. her breath comes in stuttering prayers, whispered up to a ceiling that has seen too many sins. chris kneels between her thighs like a penitent man, his hands reverent, deliberate, knowing. he moves with the patience of a monk, a disciple of devotion and denial, letting her rise just high enough to glimpse heaven, only to drag her back down into the flesh and ache. she tries to beg, but her tongue is thick with the wine of wanting. each time she crests, each time she thinks she could fall into light, he pulls away, letting her wallow in the feeling of almost. helena's body trembles, slick with sweat and holy water. she is unraveling, bead by bead like a rosary being torn apart by desperate fingers. chris murmurs to her in a voice that could coax saints from their vows. “not yet,” he breathes against the soft, inked skin of her neck. it's not a denial - it's scripture. "please -" her thighs shake, muscles twitching in time with the racing beat of her heart ; a sacred drum, pulsing with hunger. her tattoos burn under his touch like holy writ, as though his fingers read scripture in ink and skin and curves. black curls stick to her cheeks, damp with tears she's shed unbeknownst to her. each time he brings her to the edge, holds her there, she feels more human, closer to divinity. by the sixth time, she isn't sure if she is crying or praying. her hands clutch at the sheets like a sinner clutching the edge of salvation, begging for release. he smiles— a slow, knowing thing. a god with no mercy, not tonight. and she would knowingly follow him into hell for one more taste of that grace.
this is the height of dirtbaggery. they’ve carved out a filthy little corner of the world for themselves, tucked behind a line of portapotties and a sagging merch tent, far from the buzz of security or the reach of greedy hands looking for a share. it’s just them, the stink of body heat and stale weed smoke clinging to the air like fog, the tremble of bass rolling through the grass from some band neither of them came to see. he's grinning, really grinning — for the first time in what feels like a lifetime, like all the rot in his chest’s been burned out under the sun. there’s a glint of something feral in his eye as he pulls the baggie from his pocket and gives it a little shake. the contents crinkle like dead leaves. “it’s gonna taste like shit,” he snickers, pinching out a chunk of dried, gray-brown fungus like he’s handling treasure. he doesn’t even flinch anymore, not at the smell, not at the thought of what comes next. the crowd screams as the first real drop of the set hits across the lawn, but it might as well be miles away. his fingers hover in front of their mouth. “open up.” like communion — if god were dirtier, meaner, and knew how to have a good time.

it’s strange how much they seem to have in common. like they’ve been cut from the same cloth and torn apart along the same seams. their scars don’t match exactly, but they’re close enough that barrel can feel the shape of them anyway. even now, walking side by side through the night, he can’t stop thinking about it. about how strange all of this is. strange in a good way. the kind that feels almost like a blessing, if he believed in things like that. the kind of strange he already knows will stay with him long after whatever this is between them inevitably burns itself out. ( because it always does). the cherry of his cigarette glows bright against the dark, flaring every time he takes a drag. gravel crunches beneath their shoes in a slow, steady rhythm, filling the silence between them. but it isn’t awkward. usually, silence gets under barrel’s skin. usually, he runs from it before it can start chewing at him. this time, though, it feels soft. easy. warm. gentle in a way he still doesn’t really know how to trust just yet. his brown eyes flick toward chris, stealing a glance. his boyfriend. jesus christ. even thinking the word feels unreal, let alone knowing it’s true. somehow, he’s managed to convince this guy he’s worth sticking around for longer than a one-night stand. truthfully, barrel wants more than that too. a lot more, if he’s being honest with himself. up ahead, the graveyard sign comes into view just beyond the next turn. barrel tips his chin toward it. “think that’s us.” a smirk tugs at his mouth around the cigarette as smoke spills from his nose. his grip tightens unconsciously on the strap of the duffel bag slung over his shoulder. “hopefully the gate’s unlocked,” he mutters. “otherwise, we’re jumpin’ it.”
