You and your Dearest friend Neytiri sat near the feasting fire, Everyone in the clan was gathering for a meal and you were in the midst of a conversation with Neytiri and Her mate Jake.
You and Neytiri had genuine No clue what Jake was going on about, Some sorts of meals he had on his alien planet? what he missed.
But regardless the both of you gave him both of your undivided attention and while you better than Neytiri gave him sympathy.
“We would gather like this during the winters, though ours were much colder than you guys, and we would exchange gifts and have a big meal with a giant bird and sides.
But the meal would take so long to be ready, that My brother Tommy and I would sometimes go out and get burgers at an old feeding area.” Jake tried enthusiastically telling you both, being mindful to change words for Neytiri and Yours understanding.
Your ears twitched along with Neytiri at the sudden somber tone Jake's voice took when bringing up the topic of his brother.
Both sharing a glance you both reached to place your hands on him.
Neytiri on Jake's chest and yours on his shoulder to give him strength as he remembered the loss of a loved one.
Neytiri understood even more than you as she squeezed her fingers on his chest.
“My jake?” she would softly ask pulling the man from his distant facings and back towards the both of you.
His hands moving to hold both of yours to him a small smile pulling on his lips as he tips his head in thanks before allowing you both to pull away and settle.
You broke the silence wanting the man to only think of the warmth of the memory rather than sadness.
“What is a burger?” You had brought up the question and you and Neytiri watched at how Jake had perked up and eagerly explained what this strange alien food was.
The both of you shared glances at each other, Minds sharing the same thoughts as he continued and the same plans.
“It starts with bread, but it is a round loaf cut in half.”
You both spent the next day gathering grain in a weaved basket, Finding two good flat stones by the river beds, washing them well before drying them by a fair in your home.
Neytiri worked on mashing the grain into a flour and you worked on mixing that flour with water and eggs, kneading everything into a dough.
Both of you placed the bread in a powdered basket covered with cloth and set outside of the home to catch the sun and wind as Neytiri went to gather her bow and You your spear.
Here you relied more on Neytiri's experience in a hunt, as you were more to watch her back and provide aid as you both ran through the trees and over the terrain. Calls whistling and soft hollers leaving the both of you as you both communicated without letting any nearby animals know that hunters were coming with them.
You had slid to a stop when you saw Neytiri crouch down pulling back the draw string on her bow aiming below.
Your eyes following her arrow tips path landing on a small herd of boar like animals below.
“Then there's meat, mashed up and shaped into a round patty. This is cooked over a fire and placed between the cut bread.”
Here the arrow hit perfectly through, a clean and respectful kill which had you grabbing her shoulder with a smile wide on your face.
“Your arrow flies clean my friend.” You praised her making her ear tip and turn with a smile forming on her face.
“One day, I will show you how to do the same so you can leave that black thing behind for the next hunt.” She speaks teasingly as she moves her bow back onto her body making you chuckle as you strapped your spear and place the both of you leapt from the trees to the dead animal.
Bowing your heads in utmost respect and whispering Eywa's blessing before collecting the meat that was essential not only for the clan's nightly feast, but the gift you both were so determined to recreate.
The meat was fresh, therefore it was easier to chop up small pieces and grind it on the stone You and Neytiri found.
You out of habit mashed in spices and seasonings freshly harvested or gathered from the day prior into the meat to keep it from spoiling so fast as you both mashed it into a clay bowl covering well with thicken leather and hiding it away from the sun as you both quickly rush up and headed to the forest.
“Then on top of the meat there's erm…edible greens but it's like sweet and tangy and crunchy ... ..it's good on the burger….it's called lettuce.”
This one was harder as it involved you and Neytiri to bite into many leaves that you both had vast knowledge on being edible.
Too sweet, no crunch
“It tastes like ass.” Neytiri mutters after spitting out a yellow leaf, one that was good at making medical lixouri sweet for children, And you sputtered into a laugh.
“I do not think we use the ones for medicine on ... .strange meat things .” You mutter to your friend between the giggles making her huff and ears flutter.
“ bourgers. My Jake said there called Bourgers.” She corrected you and you laughed more.
“I do not think he said Bourgers, my friend.” You replied, making her roll her eyes.
“I believe it does not matter.” Neytiri bickers back before you both find giggles among you.
Eventually and a whole lot of lead tasting later you both decided that this strange alien food would have two leafy bits and figured that Jake would not have minded.
Other plant life was easier to find, as the tastes of the alien ones that Jake described to go onto the burger were not too far from the ones of your homelands.
Soon you both were back in the village working away in your home.
Bread baking in a fire pit,
Meat sizzling on hot rocks in the fire, With Neytiri flipping it when needed.
You were busy chopping the plant life, placing everything in a bowl for when it was time to assemble, and when that time came You and Neytiri could not stop giggling at reciting Jake's words into figuring out how to make this so cherished food of his memories.
Of course in the easier form of understanding.
“Bread first, then meat, leaves, more plants, bread.”
You carefully wrapped the burgers into a cloth wrap and you both grabbed them, storing them into a satchel before leaving your home to find Jake Purposely hours before the festival's grand feast.
“My Jake.” Neytiri had Called him when you both found him busy teaching young warriors, well assisting in teaching l, Catching his attention. His eyes moving quickly to find his wife, his ears perking up before his lips pulled up into a smile.
You grinned seeing how the two still looked so utterly fascinated and purely in love with each other as Jake quickly made his way over to where you and Neytiri stood.
Questions in his eyes as Neytiri began to lead him away with you in tow.
“Come, we have something important to show you.” She spoke as she began to take the lead, you following after Jake as much as a hurry.
“Has something happened?” Concern laced in his voice as he quickly hurried into place beside her.
You giggled as Neytiri shook her head with a smile on her face.
“Just follow My Jake.”
Neytiri led the three of you to a small crack just a little ways from the village and yet not too far away in case something happened and the both of them needed to rush back to it.
“What's going on?” Jake questions his brows furrowing as he took the both of you in and With a nod from Neytiri you were already pulling out one of the wrapped burgers and holding it out for him to take.
“A gift?” He questioned the confusion still on his face as he took the brown cloth and unwrapped it, his eyes slightly widening and a laugh came from him as he looked to his wife in awe and then at you with gratitude.
“And what is this?” He teasingly asked, pretending he didn't understand as you had already passed Neytiri on her own and you had opened yours both of you wide with smiles, ears perked and tails swaying.
“Bourgers!”
“Borgers!”
Jake had laughed, shaking his head as he fondly looked at his wife and then you.
“They're perfect, thank you.” He said with a wide grin, his eyes falling onto what his wife and you had made for him, at least tried to made for him and it made him smile more as he took a bite into it, feeling both of your nervous and anticipating gazes, he let out a noise and bobbed his head as he look at the both of you, chewing quickly and swallowing his smile wider than ever, ears twitching and tail swaying.
“Possibly the best damn burger I've ever had.”
