[Trailer] Alex Pettyfer Takes a Mysterious Road Trip in THE STRANGE ONES
Alex Pettyfer first came into the spotlight in 2011, with I Am Number Four and the hilarious(-ly bad) Beastly. Subsequent years saw him busting a move with Channing Tatum in Magic Mike, and fulfilling his duties as a blandly handsome white dude in Hollywood by appearing in 2014’s Endless Love. But his newest project, The Strange Ones, sees him treading some intriguing indie waters…
A new trailer for the film has just been released, and it’s appropriately vague, given the synopsis:
Mysterious events surround two travelers as they make their way across a remote American landscape. On the surface all seems normal, but what appears to be a simple vacation soon gives way to a dark and complex web of secrets.
The trailer offers glimpses of Pettyfer looking suspicious, and James Freedson-Jackson (in only his second feature) looking dazed and a little freaked out. A soundbite has Pettyfer referring to him as his brother, but my trust issues call shenanigans. Sprinkle in some ominous shots of a burning building and a few dead bodies, and you’ve got yourself some intrigue.
The film, from directors Christopher Radcliff and Lauren Wolkstein, is based on their own short film of the same title which was released back in 2011. The 14-minute short seems to take place in a single motel, while they expanded the scope a little for the feature, framing the action around a road trip between the two characters. I personally get very strong Sun Don’t Shine vibes from this so far. That Amy Seimetz-directed film (available on Shudder) also centers around a road trip between two people, with the destination and the motive both just as murky.
We wont have to wait very long to find out, as The Strange Ones (which premiered at SXSW in March) is officially released on January 5, 2018.
