the building was halfway through death’s door.

the grey wallpaper was peeled, the entire place reeked of dampness, the windows gaped like vacant sockets, occasionally allowing the shine of the moon in.

you sat next to chrollo, occupying a chunk of debris.

you didn’t really choose to sit with him. it was nippy and you didn’t have a jacket. it wasn’t your fault chrollo felt like a warm fireplace in a dark, numb room.

chrollo’s eyes were trained on his book—some piece he acquired in yorknew. he flipped through page occasionally, causing the rustling of paper.

his eyes were tracking the words, but his mind was tracking everything else.

how the wind direction changed, how the temperature dropped in the slightest, how the shadows shifted—was it a spy or was it nature doing its own thing?

what you didn’t realise was that he was aware of your movements too.

you didn’t know he was watching your eyes—at first following the loops of ivy climbing up the wall, then becoming unfocused, before they slowly drooped and fell shut.

chrollo didn’t move an inch, like he expected you to fall asleep. his eyes lifted from the words, sliding sideways to inspect your form.

today was one of those rare days where, the phantom troupe having no scheduled heists on any known auctions or such, while you didn't have anything to do, per usual. chrollo preferred it that way, so everyday he comes back home being greeted with your smile and warm hugs.

his face was flush against your chest, his muscular arms wrapped around your torso, tightly gripping it. your fingers were entangled in his currently messy black hair, feeling the softness of it.

the soft moment made you smile, the cold merciless leader of a group full of murderers was in your arms, sleeping peacefully without a care in the world. it was as if you could see a halo on top of his head whenever he looked this innocent.

the sun light finally shining onto your eyes, you move your free hand to cover your eyes from the sunlight. you sighed, deciding to get up and make some breakfast for the emo boy clinging on you.

he felt so vulnerable and weak in your hands. you were his soft spot, the one thing he could never afford to lose. if he were ever to lose you, it would cause a devastating effect on him.

but that wasn't the point at this moment, all your attention was on him and he was absolutely living it. he was drowning in his thoughts, thinking about all the things he could do with you today— reading books together, star gazing, picnics together.

you sighed, noticing the dazed look on his face. assuming he was day-dreaming, you softly kiss him.

a light knock echoed through the walls of the morow household, presumably coming from the front door, you put down your knife onto the cutting board and wipe your hands on your apron while walking to the door.

twisting the knob and opening the door, you were greeted with 3 children, one of them being your twins, a daughter and son. your twins each had a grip on the arm of the unrecognizable child in the middle, both amusing and confusing you.

"why hello there~" a familiar playful voice said behind you. turning your gaze just to see your husband, hisoka, peeking over your shoulder to see the unexpected guest.

hearing light footsteps from downstairs, you hurry up on collecting clothes into the laundry basket and rush down the stairs.

walking by the living room, you see your daughter, freita, with another child next to her, assuming she's her friend. the two children were both watching a cartoon on the TV while still being in their school uniform.

"freita!" you called out from the entrance living room, causing her and her friend to look at you. freita quickly got up with her face ablazed at the fact that her mother caught her with her friend. she quickly made her way to you while looking at the floor to hide her state.

"who must this be?" you smiled, kneeling to your child's height, putting down the basket and using your other hand to cup her face for her to look at you.

"my friend...." her response was quiet and shy, the usual reply you'd get. "aki"

you smile at her, content with her answer. you ruffle her hair and shoot aki a grin before getting up to carry on with the household chores. you put down the basket in the laundrey room, planning on forcing your husband to do them instead.

your husband always liked to surprise you whenever he's done with whatever he's doing in his study. you already knew of his work underground—the amound of blood on his hands from his dirty work.

with that being said, getting a wife was merely a dream to chrollo, something he would fantasize as he read his books—but now he had a whole family to care about, love, cherish.

you and chrollo had raised your child to control her emotions and mostly observe, just like her father. the two would read books together in their free time, you'd occassionaly join them but the two would always giggle to each other and show each other their books leaving you out.

it was an adorable sight but you'd have to leave the two to cook dinner. as you thought about it, it reminded you that you didn't know what to cook for dinner.

today was the way that you and your three bestfriends were going to take the hunter exam. the four of you had planned on meeting on meeting at the island where the exam was going to be held.

with that being said, you had arrived at the island 30 minutes earlier than the time agreed upon. as you quietly fiddle with the hem of your skirt, you saw a shadow loom over you. observing the shadow, you recognize it's hairstyle.

"ah! I could barely recognize you y/n" Illumi claimed— analyzing your attire. you were wearing a skirt AND a choker, both items something you wouldn't normally wear.

"hiso gave me the skirt while roro gave me the choker.." you shyly explained with a blush, avoiding any eye contact with the younger boy.

"Hey!!" hisoka yelled while approaching the both of you— chrollo trailing behind him looking else where.

at the presence of all 3 of them, your blush erupted into a bright red. hisoka and chrollo stand next to illumi asking him what happened to you. you were just an absolute mess.

hisoka and chrollo laughed after illumi had explained everything while he cracked a smile. you stared at all of them with steam coming out of your ears, confused at what they were laughing about.

hisoka looked at you with a cunning smirk. "you're adorable short cake!" he commented with a laugh. chrollo also turning to you with a teasing grin.

while they were teasing you, you were distracted at what the three of them were wearing. hisoka had his hair down, still showing off his golden earrings and sharp golden eyes. illumi had a blue jacket with the sleeves detached and his blue earrings. then there was chrollo with his bandana and sleeveless T-neck..

'the three of them.. really are my bestfriends' you couldn't believe that these three handsome guys were your bestfriends. it felt like any teenage girl's dream to have three attractive guys by her side.

as you were stuck in your thoughts, hisoka had picked you up and threw you over his shoulder. they were ready to take the exam, except you.

so as they were all walking to the entrance, you were hitting hisoka's back repeatedly and loudly whining, spewing out 'i'm not ready!' 'this isn't funny put me down!!' 'i can walk on my own!'

the bystanders who stood by couldn't help but chuckle at the scene that was unfolding in front of them. hisoka smirked hearing all the laughs and the towns folk talk about you, carelessly blowing on bubblegum.

This was going to be a long ride.

You could feel your eyelashes flutter open but there was nothing but darkness encasing you. A question beginning it's cycle in your mind, with nothing but a sharp tone that could even cut stone.

"Who do you think you are?"

“I’m Y/N L/N.”

“Are you sure you’re not lying to him?”

At that moment, your breath hitched with your legs slowly buckling under you. With your legs weakened, you dropped on all fours. Tears slowly permeate your vision and choked sobs escape your mouth.

Outstretching your arm to the darkness ahead, as if something would pull you out of the pit created in your mind. The feeling of weakness against something people could have easily defeated slowly caught up to you, the feeling of being helpless.

The feeling you pushed down and down, nowhere to be seen by anyone that wasn’t you. Refusing to open up about your feelings, to even the one you cherish and love the most. The two of those choices slowly rise up to the top, ready to pull you back down with them.

Guilt blocking you from speaking out to Chrollo about how you had been feeling, worsening the current state of your mental health. It was well deserved to you, you being selfish to not open up to someone willing to offer everything he had to help you.

Finally realizing all your mistakes when it was too late

When all hope was lost, A light broke through the darkness. The warmth coating your cold body, reminding you of the hugs your lover would offer during the late night. The feeling of hope pushed you to get up and grab the light and hold on to it as if it was going to disappear.

And that was what you did.

Forcing yourself up with all your strength and running to the light. I’ll never give up, not when you’re with me.

Crossing the light, warm arms greeted you, accompanied by your lover’s signature smile. You wrapped your arms around him with a deathly grip, never letting go.

“Seems like someone really missed me” Chrollo chuckled while raising an arm to pat your head. You didn’t respond, opting to instead nuzzle your face into his chest, having a smile grace on your lover’s face

This was where you belonged.
