Loving chapter 19 of Eversion! I've read it three times already just to really take it in. I was wondering what Luther and particularly Kara's reactions are to being evacuated? I'm torn between Kara being mostly worried and being pissed about Connor being reckless (though I'm less sure if that would be because he was being selfish or for not valuing himself). Extra kudos!!!
Hmm, I don’t think Hank would have told them. I’d say that even though Hank was really mad at (and worried about) Connor, he likely just told Kara that the case had blown up and come back at them. Kara would be as likely to blame him (Hank can - as we’ve seen through Fowler - also be reckless)
Connor, after all, had told Kara about the case. And Kara was the one who encouraged him to pursue it, and encouraged him to get Hank involved. I think she was aware it was a big case and that it could get dangerous. Because of Kara’s proximity to and friendship with Hank from the beginning, she’d always known evacuation was a possibility, and been prepared for it. Even years before, when Hank was the bodyguard of Cole and Hank was beginning to become friends with Kara, he had already warned her with something along the lines of: You shouldn’t be friends with me, people around me tend to get killed, if I can’t stop it from happening. And they may try and come at me, through you.
And I’m certain Hank has evacuated them before to be on the safe side. He’s definitely gone to great lengths to protect their house, as well as his own, but as he can’t protect theirs like he protects his (we’ll find out exactly how much that taxes him later), he generally plays it ‘better safe than sorry.’
So it’s not like Kara has ever been…unaware that Hank leads a dangerous life or that it might impact her, Luther and Alice. It’s her generosity of spirit that makes her keep the friendship despite knowing that, and want Hank back in her life. I’d say she was a little alarmed, but mostly very grounded about it. Like, ‘okay, we’ve prepared for this day, and we know this case is important. We’re going to go here because Hank has said it’s safe there, and we’ll make sure to take some of Alice’s toys and Luther’s books. *grabs readily packed suitcases and leaves house.*’
But yeah, I think even if Connor went up to her and said ‘actually it was all my fault,’ Kara would probably be grounded enough to point out that the case involves potentially destroying all androids (or at least their souls/personality) for the sake of creating a purer/stronger red ice, and that big picture - she’d rather evacuate now so they can get rid of the crime syndicate, than later, when the lives of all androids are in danger. They’re not that far out of androids being emancipated that she doesn’t understand that sometimes these things need to happen? But we’ll see her reaction down the track! :D
