Inspired by a recent ask, my first ever fanfiction!
In which a slightly softer Kai starts his day and faces the horror of having to leave their new hideout. Contains weight gain and demeaning thoughts.
English is not my native language, also I am terrified of getting the characters wrong. This is a huge leap for me, and I hope you will enjoy reading it! Feedback is greatly appreciated.
The Flower blooms in hiding
It was still dark outside. No sound of movement could be heard as most people were still asleep in the neighbourhood. He was already awake, sitting on the edge of his bed. Bent forward, his elbows resting on his knees, Kai Chisaki sat alone in silence. Without his mask or a shirt on he was looking quite ordinary.
After making himself presentable in the bathroom earlier, every morning he’d come back up to the bedroom to go over his plans for the day. Even in hiding his scheming ways have not abated. Even if there were mundane errands and tasks more fitted for simpletons to carry out, he knew this stunted lifestyle would not last long. It was necessary, and though perhaps some would lean back and let go of the wheel, Kai couldn’t disagree more with that mindset. He was still hell bent on creating a new world and so took time to plan accordingly.
He took a deep breath. The air of his small, second storey room was clean, breathable even without a mask. It was cool and smelled faintly of detergent. For anyone else it would likely feel irritating and stinging. Leaning towards the small bedside table he lit the lamp. The room was illuminated in a pale, pristine light. The windows were shown to have the shutters completely closed and a desk in the other end of the room was revealed. There was his laptop and stacks of papers, mostly related to research.
His figure was also lit up. Wearing no shirt, the young leader of the Shie Hassaikai seemed to have filled out somewhat in the past two months. 15 lbs perhaps, 20 at most, couldn’t have been more, but for a slender man like Kai it was all the more noticeable. It mostly went to his stomach, which started pushing past the waistband of his black briefs, which in turn seemed to contain slightly thickened thighs and rounder buttocks. It wasn’t all that noticeable in his face, with perhaps a hint of rounder cheeks.
It wasn’t much, but with most of it going to his belly and how thin he used to be it couldn’t be mistaken that Kai has put on some weight in hiding. Perhaps the rural peace of this town was getting to him, and these days there weren’t nearly as many immediate threats to deal with than in the past. Possibly he noticed the changes himself, but paid no mind to them, as for now there had been more pressing issues. Confined to this small house, there weren’t long corridors and flights of stairs to take every day, even if he’d still spend most of his time at his desk doing paperwork, like he used to. At the time he didn’t realise how much that exercise helped him stay in shape.
He got up from the bed and went to his desk, turned on his laptop and checked for any messages. His golden eyes gleamed from the light of the monitor as they roved across the screen. His covert operations were going underway smoothly, quietly. More Shie Hassaikai escaped the raid on their old base than people realised. It was a setback, and the heroes did great damage, but there was nothing that in time could not be corrected. And of course, in the end they were the ones who suffered most grievously. Eternal night has fallen on the eyes of many.
The silence of the room was broken by a growl. He winced slightly at the unpleasant sound. It was his stomach. Having been reminded of his bodily needs, and up to date about current events, Kai left his desk and prepared to get dressed.
His old attire he kept in a drawer. The fluffy green coat, the plague doctor mask, they were there. But it would be too risky to be seen wearing either by anyone. It was a shame really, for he did not look forward to going out among people without them, especially the latter.
Without these two pieces of his attire, his dark shirt and jeans looked average and unassuming. A fitting disguise, he thought as he pushed his arms into the shirt sleeves then rolled them back slightly. His agile hands moved swiftly, quickly starting to close the buttons. Though it was still fitting, the shirt hugged his filled out frame more than any other time in the past. It was still comfortable, but the outline of his belly button was visible through the fabric.
Next came his jeans, just like his shirt, the same ones he’d worn most days, long time part of his old trademark outfit. It seemed to be going smoothly, as he slid his legs in. Closing it felt a little harder, though he wasn’t inconvenienced by it much.
Lastly he put on his belt and socks. Perhaps he had to choose the next hole for the belt to fit comfortably, it didn’t matter. Sitting down momentarily for the latter, as he bent forward the fabrics tightened in several places, and his comfortable shirt ironed out in the back and sides, showing that he has started developing small love handles as well.
Finally he was ready to leave..
Slowly he closed his laptop and, after turning off the light, headed to the door. Leading to the first floor was a steep flight of stairs going down a narrow, panelled corridor. It creaked slightly as he went down, though he could remember it doing so on the day they moved in. Going down, carrying the surplus weight proved easy enough, though it did leave his heart pounding just a hare faster than in the past. Reaching the ground floor, like golden laser beams, the first rays of the sun shone through the gaps between the shutters. He halted at the foot of the stairs and saw that everything was as he had left it before going to sleep.
Crossing the small room he glanced over to a door on his right. It lead to the basement. The fact that it was reinforced wasn’t visible at all, neither that it was protected by a clever lock and alarm. All hell would break loose if anyone even looked at it funny. Upon closer scrutiny it became clear that none has touched it. Still, he wasn’t going to gamble his fate on mere assumption. Still, how much easier it would be if he had the luxury of subordinates. They were the perfect fit for such menial tasks. But for the present they were better spent elsewhere.
Before though, he needed somethings first. Kai reached for a drawer, and putting on a disposable black face mask and of course a pair of gloves, he disappeared momentarily in the basement. After a few minutes he returned. Once again reminded by his stomach that it was time to eat, and having nothing plausible left in the fridge, he braced himself for exiting the house. At least he had this mask, and the gloves.
Leaving without either was not an option. Just the thought of such a scenario was nauseating. It wouldn’t be suspicious either, with so many people protecting themselves from the virus to such degree. Kai wasn’t all that concerned about catching it, however. He knew the true sickness that was ravaging mankind. Ignorant fools, those wastes of air, to think they would soon share his space. It was sickening and almost made him break out in hives.
Thefirst few weeks here adjusting were particularly harsh, but slowly he got better at handling it, the people, acclimatising to the changes in his life better than most people would recovering from lesser losses. How much did he lose, really. The old base – a new one will be built, better and stronger. The inferiors who gave their lives or were captured – new recruits will fill their place. The research: safe. The bounties of his incessant work: in his keeping. And the centrepiece which made it all possible – secured. He looked so calm and peaceful thinking about it all. Especially having heard how much the heroes suffered, how much they lost during the raid. And for what..?
Visions of heroism, self sacrifice. Stooping low to raise the weak and the downtrodden, sinking deep in their foul mire. Disgusting. And in the grand scheme of things, ultimately inconsequential. It almost did not earn his derision, which of course it did. They were even more flawed than the League, and those grimy, greasy misfits were beyond hope anyway. Foul carrion birds. If they were lying in ambush for slim pickings once the dust has settled they must have been gravely disappointed.
Kai shook his head. He took solace in the fact that the only person he needed was hale and full of latent powers. He Himself, the only person he could trust and depend upon. He’ll accomplish his goals He will repay his debt in full and with interest as well. With enough time, before anyone could suspect, the Shie Hassaikai will strike out of the shadows. And there was nothing he couldn’t accomplish.
For the third time his small paunch called out unhappily. Great plans were hungry work. The sound disturbed his chain of thought, and he realised in annoyance that he still haven’t even left the house, standing before the door like a grade A lemon. With a soft, displeased grunt, he took a deep breath, getting ready to reach for the handle, setting out to conquer the first major obstacle of the day.
Hi I'm wondering if you already thought about drawing stuffed Jade Leech (I saw your Idia drawing, amazing I loved it) so I thought you were into Twisted wonderland :)
Thank you, glad you liked it. I have not thought about it yet, but I might, eventually, Jade looks interesting. Honestly this is the first time I see him, since I know very, very little of Twisted Wonderland, only a bit about Idia, like him being voiced by one of my favourite voice actors, Kōki Uchiyama.
