Quarantine Weight Loss Tips
Hey guys! I know it’s been a tough time for all of us, so I figured I’d try and make a helpful little guide to keep us on track. These are just some things that have helped me out - not everything will work for everyone, but hopefully they’ll be useful for you guys!
♥ Sleep 8+ hours every night. Not getting enough sleep can actually make you more hungry and sluggish the next day.
♥ Drink 8 glasses of water a day. Or in other terms, 64oz of water a day. Drinking more water not only keeps you hydrated (super important if you’re exercising!) but it can help you feel full between meals. For more of a benefit there, start your day with a glass of water and drink a full glass before every meal. This will help you avoid overeating!
♥ Stop eating when you feel full. It can be hard to resist the temptation to finish your meal - a lot of us grew up expected to finish our plates! But, there’s always leftovers and if you stop eating when you’re full, you won’t overeat.
♥ Keep track of what you eat throughout the day. For some. myself included, this would mean calorie counting. That might not work for everyone though - even if you aren’t counting calories, try to eat fresh foods and note your portions for each meal.
♥ Have snacks between meals. Now, I’m not saying you should pig out between meals, but a small (preferably healthy) snack between your meals can keep your energy up and hold you off until the next meal, so that you don’t get too hungry.
♥ Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. I try to do 45-60 minutes a day, but even just half an hour works. Whether you’re just walking or doing something more rigorous, exercise helps a lot for weight loss. Plus, it’s got tons of other benefits - you’ll be able to sleep better, for one. And if you’re exercising outside, the fresh air can really improve your mood.
♥ Try to focus on schoolwork and/or hobbies when you get cravings. It can be easy to comfort eat when you get bored, so the easy way to avoid that is to get focused on doing something else.
♥ Make an effort to motivate yourself. Read your favorite motivational quotes, remind yourself why you want to do this, stuff like that! I like to save certain youtube videos and audiobooks for when I’m exercising, so if I wanna listen to them, I gotta exercise! Small ways like that can be super helpful.
♥ Give yourself a morning and/or nighttime exercise routine. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but doing x amounts of pushups, sit ups, squats, etc once or twice a day can make a difference over time when you’re consistent with it. Plus it’s easy to get used to doing it if you do start or end your day with it!
♥ Be kind to yourself. Honestly, I find it hardest to stay on track when I’m too self-critical. If you slip up, eat too much or something unhealthy, or end up not exercising as frequently as you like, it’s okay! Give yourself a break. This is a tough time we’re in - be proud of the fact that in spite of everything, you’re still crushing it!
That’s all I’ve got for now, but feel free to add on your own as well! Things are tough, but we’re tougher. I believe in you ♥
