He got clean shortly after Gasket's death, and has been clean ever since. In the Decepticons, he founded and helped run a program to help 'Cons with backgrounds like him get clean. It was one-third vicious detox regimen, one-third counseling and support group, and one-third slightly traumatic aversion therapy. He's spent over four million years with almost every single one of his medical dataports corrupted and unusable, because that was one of the ways he'd get drugs into his system and so having useless ports is on the one hand a preventative measure and on the other a self-punitive measure. He refuses to try a new drink without knowing everything that's in it or without knowing that it's safely recommended by a fellow former addict, to ensure he doesn't accidentally get hooked on something new. He is very careful not to backslide. So accusations and suspicions hurt him deeply.
