I have more chuck thoughts
Specifically about s3 this time
Spoilers btw
Okay so
S3 was my favourite season for a While. Now it’s kinda joint with s2 but I still think that s3 might actually have some of the best narrative arcs
(Also has one of the few miscommunication plots that I actually like)
But just. That arc with Sarah and shaw
Y’know the one
Where Chuck is tryna become a spy (and I’m sure a partial reason for that is so he can be with Sarah)
And meanwhile Sarah is watching the man she fell in love with going further and further down a path she’s come to hate
I mean it’s established in the first two seasons that Sarah kinda doesn’t like being a spy anymore
And Chuck is doing stuff like putting assets in underground bunkers (something that was threatened against him multiple times in the first two seasons and was something he genuinely feared happening and he just did it to someone else)
And then he has to kill someone
And I feel like that’s kinda the tipping point for both of them
Because he can’t not. He’s come this far and this is the last step
But Sarah can’t deal with it
(And it doesn’t matter that he didn’t because everyone has to think that he did because Casey isn’t a spy anymore and it would be a Problem if ppl found out it was him)
But then Shaw takes Sarah.
And Chuck can’t flash because he’s too emotional.
But Shaw is gonna kill her and she can’t fight back coz she’s basically paralysed at this point.
And so Chuck shoots Shaw
And I love the little scene afterwards. Where he shoots and then he stares at the gun like he can’t believe what he did. And it’s not quite clear what he’s thinking but he seems almost… horrified by himself
And god I love it
The build up is literally so perfect
He won’t kill anyone. He refuses to. He almost fails his red test, even knowing what’s at stake if he does because he just… can’t kill a person.
Until he does.
(And yes it does then get undone later and he makes a different call that time and I’m kinda conflicted on whether I like that or not. Coz on the one hand, “no thanks, I’ve already done that once before” is a Great Line and I enjoy the meaning behind it. That he can’t bring himself to do it again. But on the other hand, I kinda wish that he’d actually had to live with the choice that he made in a way?)
