Tips for going back to church!
1. FIND A CHURCH YOU LOVE!! Personally, if I can't engage with the homily or if I disagree with the priest's views I don't have a major desire to go to church. So work to find a place that fits you and the Catholic you are today.
2. BRING A FRIEND!! If you ask me, church should be more than just a place for mass. It should be a community, a place full of people you respect and enjoy spending time with. Try a friend's church out or bring a friend along to try a new church. Together you can see if it could be more than just a stop over once a week!
3. CHECK IT OUT!! There are many things that determine whether or not I like a certain church- factors that will make me more or less likely to return. So do some research, google is an amazing tool! To me the architecture and art of the church are a factor, I feel God's presence when I am in a place of beauty and serenity. The type of music they play can also factor into how much I participate in mass. You can also see what type of activities or groups they have if you are looking to get more involved:)
So here's my idea... set up A CHURCH CRAWL!!
You can't be the only person you know or the only person in your area thinking about going back to church... So set up what I call A Church Crawl. It's like a pub crawl, but with a twist! Research some churches you think you might like in your area then get a group together and GO TO MASS! Try a mass or two each week until you find the one that suits you!
When you go, be sure to say hi to the priest, talk to a few parishioners and take a bulletin home. This way you get a good view into their community:)
If there is anything I can do to help, let me know! BEST OF LUCK!
