"M-marian. You're here, I-" he knew there was no way of explaining himself, so he didn’t bother. Besides, every scratchy, blood dripping word was only making more tears come to her cheeks. She was stilled where she observed, although not scolding him, he could feel it in her stare. He eased towards her, extending clawed hands that she took with heavy hesitance. "I have an idea."
Marian's tears hadn't stopped, her lips wobbling with the effort to keep in her sobs. It certainly didn't help that Julian purposefully ignored Asra as he squirmed, trying to hold himself together and keep himself out of shock. What had he done to harm him so- Marian did not know. Either way, Julian kept tugging, dragging her closer and closer to the alchemy circle and away from whatever humanity she could still feel inside of herself.
"Here, look," Julian let go of her hand to grab an old, tattered book, opening it to a particular page. The symbols were unrecognizable accompanied by words that made no sense, and the pictures did not help in the slightest. "Blood and flesh- and the combination. We go through the ritual, you and me, and come out the other end as one with shared blood and flesh and- we'll be together."
He was mad, so completely mad, he had to be to believe that it would work. She shook her head, tugging feebly in an attempt to leave him to his own ramblings- but Julian didn't budge. His grip hardened, claws scratching into her skin and drawing just the smallest trails of blood, but god it hurt. Marian whimpered, cheeks stained in her own tears and only worsening as she tried to pull away harder. God, did he just not care? There was a time- there had to have been a time- only weeks ago where he'd held her tight, lovingly, and protectively.
"Il-- Ilya, plea.." Her throat was closing up on her and tongue thick in her mouth. He tugged her all the way into the circle, pressing her down to sit on one strange, unrecognizable symbol right in the middle. Julian grabbed at a chain and quickly wrapped the ankle lock around her leg. He was- no- chaining her?! "Please... please..."
"Hey, hey-!" Julian hopped on the other side of her, tilting his head and peering at her strangely, frighteningly. His face didn't even look familiar, whitened- almost bleached- skull and bleeding eyes. "Don't worry- I know this will work! We'll be together forever, Marian-"
Marian shook her head, sobbing as her fingers dug feebly into the chain. Julian paid her no heed, opening his book once more before digging into bowls of some powdery substances. He scattered them in small piles around the circle, going around the entire circumference. He dropped the bowl once he was done and drew a dagger instead, and Marian immediately bawled.
If she hadn't been before, she was freaking out now, sobbing and jerking hard on the chain that bound her to the stone flooring. Her worry didn't faze him, perhaps fueling him to get the job done and over with. But it was strange- he was tender then, leaning down and with hushed breath. A claw scraped up her arm, cutting into fabric and leaving goosebumps behind. "Marian, I know you're scared, but you don't have to feel that way anymore. We're together, we're here- I'm yours and you're mine- and we'll be that way forever, alright?"
"Mn- no- noo..." Her weeps fell on deaf ears, along with her wails as he gripped her wrist and twisted it upward. This wasn't him, he wasn't human anymore, and she knew this perfectly clearly. She knew it wasn't him by the way he mercilessly dragged the dagger down into an arrowing shape, the point ending just where her hand connected to the wrist. "Ilya... Ilya...' And now her sobs had become weakened, once fueled high with sorrow, was weak and pained and desperate.
Julian pulled the knife back and cut into his own arm, a similar arrow and bleeding not red but black blood- jet black like ink. He knelt down to his knees, feathers tucked around him like a cape, and grabbed onto her wounded arm with his own. "It's okay, Marian. Your pain will soon be mine, and mine will be yours, forever."
His once distinct speech bubbled out into murmurs, of strange words that Marian could not understand. Her blood loss made it hard to move, to try to leave, to do anything- so she was still, hoping for a miracle.
Julian made a sound reminiscent of a squawk, wheezing from the pain of being impaled through the stomach. Asra stood back from his work, letting Julian tremble and struggle to pull the metal rod from his gut and, instead, focused on undoing the chain that held Marian in place. The touch of his hands woke her back to reality, tears igniting once more when she saw Julian's state of being. Although not dead- he surely would not survive without a ritual of flesh giving.
The chain fell with a clink, the sound resonating through the strangely silent room. Marian's weeps grew louder, and she struggled to stand with Asra's help, all while Julian continued to flail in desperation. Was he dying, could he die? Marian hissed in a breath, taking one step by herself towards the creature. This thing that she had laid next to in bed on lazy days, that she bestowed with kisses and cheek caresses that she had made love to uncountable times. Her gaze lingered on the metal rod speared through his stomach as it wobbled with his heavy breaths- that certainly was a killing wound, but not quickly.
"Marian-" Asra didn't even want to speak aloud the thought that passed through both of them. Hell, he couldn't even believe he made this happen in the first place. "He's- He's in a lot of pain..."
She nodded solemnly, like saying in a simple gesture that she knew everything that had to happen. If she didn't do it quick enough, the hesitation would gain an upper-hand, and she knew this. The wall had its numerous decorations, along with it, a cross of two spears. She grabbed one of them in feeble fingers and came closer, shuffling, hoping that she'd maybe trip and drop it- hoping for anything to stop her. But nothing came.
Julian just looked up, bloodied but characteristic eyes shimmering with tears. He seemed to realize it too, the inevitable and what should happen- what the right thing was. To spare her some agony, he bowed his head and closed his eyes, finding peace that at least she was with him in some way.
