In humans, cicutoxin rapidly produces symptoms of nausea 🤢 and abdominal pain, typically within 60 minutes of ingestion. This is followed by seizures, tremors, coma and death 💀. This violent toxin causes death by disrupting the central nervous system 🧠. However, because cicutoxin breaks down so rapidly, research on the compound isn’t easy, and scientists are still unsure about the exact mechanism it causes death. It is also unknown how the body gets rid of cicutoxin, as the highly reactive structure of cicutoxin makes it difficult for the body to excrete it. Interestingly, although cicutoxin is a known strong poison, studies show that it possesses antitumour properties, and can be used as a natural drug against leukemia and breast cancer. The (Water Hemlock) is one of the most poisonous plants, in Northern parts of the earth, mainly in North America and Europe. And it might very well be one of the most dangerous plants to humans, it has the most ordinary look you could think of. However, this plant is packing a severe poison that could kill a person by just rubbing it on their skin. It belongs to a small genus of four species that are extremely poisonous. The plant has a toxic poison called the Cicutoxin, and it affects the central nervous system. It prevents electrical signals to reach vital organs in your body, and it causes kidneys, hearts, and lungs to malfunction. It resembles many plants that are entirely harmless and maybe even healthy but, not the Water Hemlock it’s hazardous and doesn’t look like it.
