QUICK LITTLE DOODLE BECAUSE THIS MIGHT BE IT WE MIGHT BE GETTING A WIN AND THAT FOURTH BOOK OH PLEASE
And like. SECRET project (so I'm assuming it can't be like, the stuff about the animated lunar chronicles stuff cause she's shared information abt that) + this post pls let it be true + Marissa meyer wanted to return to the universe after the trilogy + In 2022 we got Cinder's Adventure in which Magpie says THIS:
huh. missed this detail when first looking through cinders adventures stuff on the renegades trilogy. Nova might be keeping this hairstyle in the sequel series
Just. gonna tlak a lot about all my thoughts for what cinder's adventure shows of magpie, and the renegades world a little bit since we left it
very self indulgement thinkin about maggie jklfdsjkldsfk im blabbing and having fun with it since i haven't done that in a hot minute (you have been warned this post is. long.
these sections don't happen right beside each other
she's so SILLLYYYYYYY so dramatiiiiicc honey would have LOVED her I stand by this SO MUCH
sometimes I make her a little too dramatic or imagine her a little too smily BUT LOOK AT HER HEREEEE SHES SMIRKING AND LAUGHING (and she also laughed earlier but softly while shaking her head "sure if you say so" in response to cinder telling her power to her) more of this pls marissa meyer pls Pleasseeee? look at her being fun and EXPRESSIVEEEEE
Also I really really really really REALLY would love to know what happened at the courthouse LIKE IN THE CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE ITS EITHER A) cinder uses her powers to control them to release her and maggie gets away or B) cinder goes along willingly and since it is her pov we dont get to see Maggie
i wannna knnooooowwwwwwww whats going on with maggie in this scenarioooooooo we get such a small interesting glimpse and I WANT TO KNOW!! WHATS GOING ON!!
likkkkkeeeeeeee first off
Magpie using Adrian's real name INITIALLY before correcting herself, she's never made that kind of slip up in the trilogy so whats going on? Whats HAPPENED in the last 3-4 years??? Maggie more familiar with calling Adrian his real name, outside of work, I kinda doubt it but still. Maggie hasn't been a renegade so been longer without thinking of Adrian as Sketch? questions questionsss (This could also be Marissa Meyer needing a reason for Cinder to pick up on Adrian's real name but thats the borrriiiinnnnggg answer and could have been done differently if that was the only purpose)
IS IT?? JUST ME OR does Adrian feel like he's less lenient with Magpie now? LIKE SHES EITHER RUN OUT OF SECOND CHANCES OR SHES REALLY CLOSE TO IT but then again, Magpie is BAFFLED that Adrian didn't fall for her little performance. I mean it IS magpie, like. Adrian knows Magpie enough for that but stilllllll what has changed. RATTLES THE BARS OF MY CAGE
"I think that girl might be trouble" "Yeah, We've noticed that." LOOK THIS ISN'T TOO FAR OFF FROM CANON but before when Nova would say something like "she would make a half decent villain" Adrian's response would be more like 'lets try not to give her the idea, that hasn't happened, (implying) still try to steer her away from it' and yeah this response isn't tooooo far off from that but. cmon. different vibbbeeeee
gooddddddddd i need another release like cinder's adventure where maggie is writtennnnnn
CA GAVE US: Maggie grieving Callum + embarrassed to be caught (leaving a gift), more expressions for maggie, potential hints towards the future in the form of Max and Maggie's dynamic, what the fuck is going on with the gravesight, what the fuck is going on with the CITY, “Superheroes? Please. Even Thorne is more heroic than this.”, maggie's reaction to being controlled by Cinder I FIRMLY choose to believe is not just because anyone would react that way, etc
COINCIDENCE I THINK NOT
I'll reach until the day we get more than the little we have for magpie, and I'm having fun. If extended canon in the sequel series disproves any of this they'll either have to give me a compelling reason to drop this or I'LL IGNORE CANONNN
Like, Magpie trembling and acting nervous could very easily be explained by other reasons, and Cinder does correctly speculate on one. But that doesn't fully disprove the idea this reaction was also fueled by Magpie HAVING EXPERIENCE with being controlled before. PLUS MAX CORRECTLY DESCRIBES IT AS A TERRIFYING SUPERPOWER RIGHT AFTER so.
Also. like. I could definitely go off of Cinder's scolding to guess what her previous scoldings were like. If they were like Cinder's + the fact she's had "stern talking to's" when she was younger than 10, did any of them ever bother to explain to Magpie why stealing was bad? Did they just use it as a punishment instead of a teaching opportunity for this lesson? Did it just teach Magpie to avoid getting caught and how? Has anyone sat her down since then? ANY RENEGADE??
AND CINDER MAKES THE ASSUMPTION THIS IS A HABIT!! I can hardly BLAME her since she doesn't know Magpie enough to know this is a survival thing, dunno how she would have reacted if she knew Maggies living situation ngl but the point still stands. I can hardly believe that at a prodigy dumping ground they raised her well, so so so ironic considering "Gatlon City Prodigy Children’s Home" (could have sworn it had renegades in the name but regardless) presumably is attached to the renegades, not officially, but still connected to hero ideals. Makes me wonder what this says about both how they raised their prodigy children, but also the amount of attention hero stuff had gotten in the city by the time Magpie started stealing as a kid. If there was still a significant amount of it, then wow what a way to fail this child when you are surrounded with hero values. If not, then still. wow look at how you failed STILL
AND ALSO
Where the. fuck. does maggie live. where HAS she lived since she left the childrens home. WHAT. WHERE IS SHE?! If she's been causing trouble with thieving I'd assume at least one renegade should be tracking her down since they KNOW her record and the fact she hasn't been a part of the renegades for a while (assumably since the end of the epilogue she said 'she knew she wasn't a renegade anymore' relying on thieving more)
Where have the renegades been in her lifffeeeeeeeee
I'd hope that'd be addressed in whatever the court scene would look like if Cinder didn't have other magical adventures/we. got. maggie. pov. ESPECIALLY IF. THEY WERE TO GIVE HER A PUNISHMENT LIKE HOUSE ARREST ig she's going back to the DUMPING GROUND??? And. would that scenario mean she's been living on her own since like. 10. sighhhhhhhh why haven't the renegades INTERVENEDDDD kills me that when Maggies on screen theres always something more important to focus on. There is always something more important than her, and yes it's cuz she's barely a side character but DRIVES ME NUTS like. She has her stealing scenes (the thing she's stealing is more important than her backstory, bracelet introduces adrian and the sisters hatred for each other, she nearly killed a councilor when controlled by Winston and since it didn't serve the narrative we didn't see her after nearly killing someone, more important to focus on Nova's inaction, Adrian giving her the bracelet is his inner turmoil cuz duh but it still goes into the pile, etc) then there are the sections explaining more aspects of the world from the training area that gets a sprinkle of Adrian lore, Maggie in this book serving the purpose of telling Cinder that ppl have superpowers + Adrian's name and all. Also when NOVA LOOKS INTO HER HISTORY IT IS CUT OFF BY "None of it was at all helpful in getting her bracelet back" which i get, none of this is me CONDEMNING the characters for Not making Maggie the main character, cuz she's not lolll (even tho if you went off my insanity alone you might get that impression) and then when Nova seeks out Maggie it is because of her bracelet and then when Maggie's story shoves its way into the spotlight again, Maggie cuts herself off (because if she didn't the books would play out differently, plus she's like Nova and doesn't like openly sharing stuff that personal)
but all of this on top of Maggie's life after dying as Evie, it began with people prioritizing themselves. They didn't tell the renegades she's survived, the best reason for Captain Chromium not realizing she survived/making sure her body was recovered is that he was messed up by HIS FRIEND's murder happening the same night (but it. still prioritized himself, others over maggie), it's my firm headcanon that at the orphanage Maggie, a telekinetic, would NOT have been the priority for any special attention as both a thief they wouldn't like and the fact that there'd be other kids with more dangerous powers to keep an eye on, during the trilogy we don't see characters check up on maggie's situation because they have OTHER THINGS they need to do! That are just more important than maggie cuz ITS ALWAYS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MAGGIEEEEE ohhhhhh all while the biggest most heart wrenching part of the story DOES focus on her largely, maggie is important when she's sick, maggie is so important that when Nova and the audience hold their breath for whether the assassin will shoot, its gutwrenching that the third gunshot HAPPENS. Maggie is so important that her, alongside her parents, are a persistent thought in Nova's mind throughout the trilogy. To go from that to the dumping ground, to unwanted, to zero focus, to the least priority, to the point where it's a question of how vigilant the Renegades are in making sure the home lives of their 10 year old Workers are well, are safe, are good. I firmly believe that there IS a degree in Maggie's situation that is wholly the consequence of her actions, self destructive behaviorrssss, but also. Wtf man
And yknow, I think it's very likely Callum was at least slightly different to this pattern given 1) Maggie refers to him as good company and sees him in a more positive light compared to the rest of the characters 2) he didn't force being cheery around maggie, he was genuinely excited. I can't say he was fully exempt because Maggie isn't the center of their world and it makes sense for characters to have priorities, especially since Callum would be seeing the good in everything, but. Still. We have so little (i could put a period there tbh) that gives the impression anyone is in her court when she needs it. She's OWED it. Evie Artino having no one as far as we know. Evie Artino's last appearance beginning in front of the grave last person (as far as we know) who we can assume was fully and genuinely there.
But that does bring to mind where Leroy is in Cinder's adventure, a very convenient transition point for a short section ik
The first trilogy ends with Maggie getting noticed by Leroy, with a knowing look in his eyes. She's unsettled since he could've seen her and tattle on her, but it's setting up that they'll know each other the next time we see Maggie pov and his absence in CA really has me thinking. I mean, him noticing her is one of those scenes where there isn't something else more important yknow. It's once again Maggie cutting it off for her own reasons, and we don't see him when Maggie isn't the most important focus. Interesting.
This. all could mean nothing. I partially expect it to since Cinder's adventure is not canon, none of this stuff actually happened, but the implications for the future are interesting if my overanalysis and heavy magpie bias/magpie brainrot are onto anything
I've already screamed a bunch about the "waiting to tell her story" line from Maggie but I recently revisited this and something completely went past my head
Maggie just admitted Callum was good company.
GOOD COMPANY
SAME GOOD COMPANY THAT MAGGIE SAID THIS ABOUT:
she loved him so muchhhhhhhhhhhhhh makes me ill how much she secretly cared for him
