1. Wide Shot - (The Tree of Life): Used to establish the setting often used at the start of a scene
2. Long Shot - (2001: A Space Odyssey): To see the character in full view, possibly used to introduce the character or give information about his full body, costume, body language etc.
3. Medium Shot - (Pulp Fiction): One of the most used shots, to bridge the gap between a long and medium close up shot. Clearly gives visual information about the characters emotions but still keeps the background in. Can be used to show the characters actions while still having a clear view of the face.
4. Medium Close Up - (Raging Bull): Most used during conversations, one of the most effective shots for capturing a characters emotions without having to use a close up
5. Close Up - (The Passion of Joan of Arc): Thought of as the most important tool in cinema the close up is used to capture the characters emotion in full range, giving us direct access to the characters eyes. Would be used in a pivotal moment for a character.
6. Extreme Close Up - (The Good the Bad and the Ugly): Used to show a more subtle detail such as the movement of eyes. Could be used to give information that would often go unnoticed or for comic effect.
