Prema Ratana takes care of a spotted deer that he rescued after he found it alone in the forest without his mother at the Ritigala Monastery, an ancient Buddhist monastery in Sri Lanka. Today, Sri Lanka is known for its beautiful white beaches, wildlife and culture. Photo by @amivitale. Sandals wait while pilgrims bathe in the Menik Ganga (a river flowing near to the Kataragama temple) for the annual Kataragama Esala festival in Sri Lanka. After having a bath, devotees walk across to the temple bearing offerings of flowers and fruit to the god to begin the Esala Kataragama. The town is sacred to Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and indigenous Vedda people of Sri Lanka. In Sri Lanka, Muslims and Christians have largely lived peacefully side-by-side, immune from much of the tension that exists between the religious groups in many parts of the world.
