Actually, it could still be both since Bellona or Belona could be ethymologically related to her surname, Belo.

It’s not the first time Oda cuts a source name or surname short. A good example of it was Sora’s handmaid Eponi; she’s obviously a reference to Les Misérables character Éponine name-wise, only with a shortened version of the name.

Besides, Oda’s known to use at least two or three different sources for his characters or locations, so it’s not really a matter of choosing one or the other.

Let me ask you something first. If I’m such an idiot and my blog’s so terrible, what are you doing here in the first place? I mean, you know where the unfollow button or the little X button that closes your browser is. I don’t think anyone’s forcing you to read my stuff. I’m not even going to bother to go into details as to why I’m not enjoying the arc as much as I would like, because, in all honesty, someone so cowardly, who feels the need to come to here to insult me and my blog using the Anonymous option, does not even deserve this reply.

Let me give you some advice, though.

1 - Please, ask your parents or caretakers to teach you some manners, because you’re going nowhere in life with that attitude you’ve showcased.

2 - Respect other people’s opinions the same way you’d like yours to be respected. You can discuss your views politely with other members of the fandom, but they’re not obliged to agree with you nor you are required to agree with them.

3 - If you’re going to send hate mail to someone in Anon mode, think to yourself whether you’d send it as an identified member, meaning showing your username. If the answer is “no”, then don’t send it. If you’re brave enough to insult someone, be as equally brave when it comes to showing your face or in this case, username.

Last but not least, it’s people like you, who resort to insults just because they disagree with other opinions but their own, the fandom doesn’t need.

I wonder why with the lack of diversity in the Marines. I mean, Mother Caramel have been explicitly said to take in children uncaring for race or background, but we only see humans and giants in Marines' rank. Are they directly sold to the Tenryuubito or? Also back then the slave price list in Sabaody didn't include Minks and whatever bird people Morgan is from.

I’m afraid Oda and Chapter 501 ‘The World Begins to Shift’ disagree with you: Minks ARE listed in there.

I think the lack of diversity within the Marine ranks is due to them being the “public face” of the WG, unlike the Cipher Pols, who mostly work in the shadows.

Ok, let’s do something. The minks, for example, are a non-Government affiliated culture. If the Marines were to suddenly have a high amount of them, it would look really fishy and people might start wondering and suspecting where and how the Hell they got these people to enlist. That wouldn’t be good at all for their public image.

The Giants are another story. We know Elbaf is NOT affiliated to the WG, but maybe some of the other Giant communities that were mentioned in chapter 867 are. We need to wait and see if Oda will give us more info on this.

Another explanation would be the fact that there is blatant racism within the One Piece world. Fishmen and many Merfolk against humans, humans against Fishmen and Merfolk; I’m sure the Longarms, Longlegs and Snakenecks suffer from this too or even the different Giant communities seem to be xenophobic to a certain degree among themselves.

Or maybe it’s just that Oda didn’t want to spoil the surprise of other races and how they look by including them in random Marine ranks. Who knows.I mean, we already KNEW there was a Giant race thanks to Little Garden, but we knew nothing of the existence and appearance of Longarms (until Sabaody), Longlegs (Dressrosa) or Minks (Zou, although Bepo was shown in Sabaody, but we didn’t know he was a Mink until Zou), for example.

Also, I highly doubt Mother Carmel was the only orphan dealer the WG traded with, but maybe she was the only one who gathered as many races as possible. Just do the math: imagine there are 100 orphan dealers and out of them only 1 (Mother Carmel) has a “diverse stock”. That’s already 90% + of humans Vs. other races, plus I’m sure most humans actually enlist voluntarily into Marine ranks.

"Orphan Dealer". Of all the titles in One Piece I've seen, this is among the ones I never thought I'd see.

Well, technically speaking that’s just her “job”; her epithet is Mountain Witch. But yeah, pretty messed up.

Although this kind of thing is what makes One Piece world even more realistic. I mean, among all those Devil Fruit powers and crazy islands, there are other things, usually on the darker side, that connect to the real world and stuff like racism, human trafficking, weapon smuggling, drug dealing, prostitution rings, slave auctions or corrupt Governments and media are all things that, as horrible as they are, give Oda’s world great depth and make it relatable in many ways.

This does not mean that One Piece world is only relatable when it comes to horrible things, but the fact that he’s not covering them, sweeping them under the carpet if you will, like some other authors do, gives it some sort 3 dimensional quality. It becomes more realistic.

caramels underworld epithet "the Mountain Witch" (Yamanba) is a reference to the Yama-uba/Yamambaof Japanese folklore, witch-like creatures who were thought to nurse children to a certain age before devouring them. This mirrors how Carmel would raise children just to sell them and creates some twisted irony in the fact that she was eaten by one of the children rather than the other way around.

Correct. I find it curious that one version of the legend claims that a flower containing her soul was the Yama-Uba’s only weakness and the first thing we saw Linlin create with her (and previously Mother Carmel’s) soul powers was a flower with part of her soul in it.

It also parallels the story of Hansel and Gretel, where the witch was fattening Hansel to eat him, but ended up dead after Gretel pushed her into the pot/oven/furnace (depending of the version). In this case, Linlin would be a mix of all three of them, Hansel (Carmel was planning to sell her of to the WG), Gretel (Linlin killed Carmel) and the witch (she cannibalised Carmel and the other children).

You know, it's funny. My sister when we first met Bege laughed at how lame his power is. And, I admit, I had to agree. Being able to shrink and hold people in your body when they're close? Not exactly being able to control metal or dismember people in a second, is it? But he's really shown his worth and the creativity of his fruit power lately. Gotta hand it to him.

I thought his power was cool when he first appeared. Looks like I was the only one, though. I mean, being able to be a one man army? Can you get cooler than that? According to the latest arc, the answer is YES, Capone Bege can get even cooler.

I believe people didn’t think much of him because he’s the second oldest Supernova (Urouge is the oldest at 47 and Bege comes in second with 42), is short and he didn’t have a very impressive bounty in comparison with the others (second lowest, right over Urouge).

Oh yeah, and he’s not cute or hot looking in any way. Many fans, too many much to my chagrin, tend to be incredibly superficial when it comes to liking a character and have this “If the character’s not hot, I don’t like them” type mentality, which is sad, really.

I’m so happy I got to see my boy Hajrudin again so soon (even if it’s just his child self)!

I don’t know why, but I loved him in Dressrosa for some reason.

I’d love to see Hajrudin appear out of nowhere and save the day, but Oda maybe plans to make Linlin and him meet each other later in the story. Who knows.

I’m also happy to see Oimo and Kashi again, waiting for Dorry and Broggy to finish their duel and come back.
