"Can I tell you something, Caelifer?" Eyre whispers as they fold the embroidered tunic a little tighter over their chest.

"You know that you can, Eyre."

"I don't think that I'm a very good Jedi." The words are almost too quiet to hear, caught in the silence that stretches between the two.

Good is not something he has the luxury to ponder; good is a fool's game. What he does know is this: the young ones will always find a way to play it.

"Dav?"

The human steps into the light. He has curly black hair and wire-frame glasses that look like they'll need to be fixed, sitting a little crooked on his face. His cheekbones are high and his jaw, surely square and strong, is covered by a well-groomed beard. His eyes are deep-set and tar-black, rimmed by thick eyelashes. If Cadaver looks for long enough, he'll notice the soft curves of an abstract tattoo tracing the lines of the man's cheek arching past his temple and disappearing into his hairline. It's not the face of a stranger.

"Duke," the soldier breathes.

Cadaver and Duke reunite months after an argument. It's not the most peaceful occasion.

Hey all! I posted this fic on AO3 a while ago but I wanted to make sure everything was settled with updating you all on Cadaver and Duke's stories before I posted anything about it here. I wrote this largely to help me develop some stuff for their rewrite, but it sort of grew legs of its own and took off into 4k words of Cadaver and Duke sorting shit out. I'd be honored if anyone took the time to read! <3
