project development: Mark-making with found objects
Hollow dried-out reed sticks, water, lighter, small mixing bowl, A1 sheet.
Inspired by works I’ve seen by fellow classmates I decided to use fire and burn a few of my sticks. I was curious to see if I could use the ash as a drawing material. The ash was a beautiful dark grey and I could use it when I added water. I used the sticks to make the mark in a ‘sweeping’ manor. I was very happy with the concentric circle effects that were made.
The grid you see is the coating of a ‘window’ in a shed I was making the work in. When rain hit the window my attention was drawn to it. I realised the beating of the rain on the window added another quality to just the visual of the grid itself.
