Jayden, the (Nerdy) Latte Boy
(I wrote a fic about my real life OTP: Ham Samwich, or, circuit8itch and possibly-john-egbert. It's fluffy and adorable and awkward, so please enjoy! More parts will be coming soon. Also featuring dead-not-sleeping-413 as the other barista. The coffee shop may or may not be Starbucks :D)
The door jingled on the way to true love.
Of course, Samantha Jean didn’t know this when she walked into the small coffee shop on the corner of 96th Street and 3rd Avenue in New York. She had just come back from an audition for a Broadway musical (A revival of Rent, which practically had her squeeing in joy just from the idea of being in it). She didn’t have high hopes for this one; she was sure that it, like all of the other auditions, would end with someone else getting the part. Samantha approached the counter with a sad expression.
“Can I get a Grande Green Tea Frappuccino, please?” She asked after reading the menu. The barista nodded, shaking their red and blue bangs in front of their face as they totaled the price. Samantha noticed, almost idly, that their nametag read Kayla.
“For here or to go?” They asked.
Samantha wavered a bit before saying, “For here.” She had some housework to do, but it could be put off for now.
“That’ll be $4.50, then.”
Samantha handed them a five, and accepting her change, went to go stand near the counter where the boy who would change her life was making her drink.
Jayden watched the girl come toward his counter somewhat nervously. It was his first day on the job, and he wasn’t really all that comfortable with the machines. He smiled at the girl, and bit his lip as he stared down the machine that blended the coffee. With a sigh, he moved over to pour in the coffee beans.
“I’m really sorry if I mess up your drink,” He said to the girl with a nervous laugh. She smiled in return.
“No problem,” She answered.
Jayden pushed the button for the blending, and turned back to the girl. “So, do you come here often?” He asked.
She raised an eyebrow at him. “Is that a come on?”
Jayden’s eyes widened comically. “No! I wouldn’t do something like that. Not that you’re not pretty or anything, you’re actually really gorgeous, but I was just trying to figure out if you were a regular here, because it’s my first day here and I’m just trying to get to know the regulars, and I should really stop talking because I’m starting to ramble.” A blush was starting to form on his cheeks.
She laughed, and Jayden thought it was the most beautiful thing he had ever heard. “I do come here often, actually. My apartment is nearby, so my roommates and I come here a lot. I’m Samantha, by the way, but you can call me Sami.”
Jayden smiled, though the blush still lingered. “I’m Jayden. It’s really nice to meet you.” At this moment, however, Kayla looked over at him. They left their register and came over.
“Jayden, are you making a Frappuccino?” They asked, a confused look on their face.
“Yeah, why?” He answered, confused.
“You’re blending coffee.” They pointed out.
“And?”
“We use the mixes for Frappuccinos, remember?”
Jayden smacked his forehead against the counter. Samantha giggled at him.
He could tell this was going to be a long day.
Reasons to keep living: There are moments where you can feel the freshness of the night air and enjoy yourself and feel how amazing you are. Because you are. You are absolutely amazing and you are so important, even if if doesn't seem like it. You're constantly reaching out and touching life around you. You have stained the world with your colour and it is a work of art. Everyone you meet is bettered by having you in their life, even in the moment it takes you to smile at them as you pass each other in the street. Not everyone will appreciate you, but they should, because you are a wonderful experience.
