For Erica Reyes Appreciation Week, Day 5: Fix-It Friday | @softranswolves
+ Bonus Not!Fic to go with this. Focus is on Erica and Jackson, but that comes after a bit a lot of context.
What could have happened if Season 2 had gone differently?
The Kanima deal is sorted soon after the attack on the station. Stiles and Derek both listen in on Gerard and Scott and learn of his betrayal; later, in the abandoned train station, the pack by his side, Stiles brainstorms ideas on ideas until he accidentally stumbles on the idea that Gerard just might want Jackson for himself. Which is already true, because Matt has been killed, but Jackson still isn't free.
It's all a gamble of the right plan and the perfect moment, and weeks later there's a Hale Pack that comprises of Alpha Derek Hale, Betas Jackson Whittemore, Isaac Lahey, Erica Reyes and Vernon Boyd, with the resident definitely-supernatural non-humans humans Lydia Martin and Stiles Stilinski by their side. (Scott has grievances to pay for, mostly on Stiles' side since Season 2 finale didn't happen, and a little bit on Derek's side because Allison tried to kill him (Stiles might also be angry at Scott for lying to Allison about her mother's death). Peter is simply on the fringes; there's little to no trust to speak of, nobody trusts him, and he can't really blame anyone for it. Derek sort of does, but not really. It's okay though. If living with the guilt of the murder of his niece and to not be there to help his nephew be a Good Alpha (not that he needs it, not with his mostly stable Pack) is his price for his actions, then so be it).
This is where it changes. The dynamics start to shift, and it isn't what anyone expected, honestly.

Chapter 1: Early Gift
"I hate you!" The cruel words cut the silence of the loft, Cora's breathing growing more pained as time goes on. Derek, Stiles and Isaac stand frozen in their spots. "Take me to the hospital, you—ahhh!"
Isaac squeaks in fear. "Wait, that's wa-way too close! They aren't supposed to be so close!"
Isaac looks at him for reassurance, but he's too busy trying to reign in the joy he is feeling in his veins at becoming an uncle—this is really happening, fuck—to do so. Stiles though, his amazing mate, assures Isaac and takes Cora to the hospital.
Chapter 2: A Day In The Life
Abigail Laura Lahey-Hale is a keen little thing, always getting into places she shouldn't, and Derek loves her niece to bits. But, as he watches Stiles read the almost one-year old a bed time story about a bunny and a tortoise she doesn't even completely understand yet, he decides that this is his most favorite part about spending time with her: watching his mate taking care of a child.
He wishes to have his own, someday, with Stiles by his side. But for now, he focuses on baking Abigail's birthday cake, one ear focused on his family, laughing; they're happy.
Chapter 3: Family Meetings (go as well as expected)
Abigail dislikes Nathan, there's no denying that. But.
"Hate is a big word, sweetheart," Stiles says, eyes soft as he looks at the now three-year-old. Derek watches from his perch on the armchair, Nathan tucked away on his chest.
Abigail crosses her arms across hers. "Hate!" Derek doesn't know where she learned this word from, but she's repeating it for the past three days now, like she needs people to know she knows it. "Hate baby!"
Stiles sighs, glaring at Derek when he snorts. Right, it's not supposed to be funny. He should be next to Stiles; they're a unit.
isaac: why is stiles crying on the floor?
cora: he's drunk.
isaac: and?
cora: he saw a picture of Derek's boyfriend
isaac: but he is Derek's boyfriend..
cora: i know.
Isaac Lahey and Cora Hale deserved more than being written off of Teen Wolf reblog and like if you agree
cora: I'm proud to identify as a moronsexual. I'm attracted to dumbasses and dumbasses exclusively. isaac: What's the Spanish word for tortillas? cora, already taking her clothes off: god, you're so fucking stupid.
Evaporate, tall person!
Cora Hale, talking to anyone in the pack (usually, Isaac Lahey)
