Someone Made a HUGE Mistake

"We're going to make an example of you," the thug said.

"Blah, blah, blah..." Stiles mocked. "You Hunters are all the same."

"What's it to you?" another thug demanded.

"Well, if you'd paid any attention, there're new rules to govern Hunters," Stiles said cheerfully.

"Bah! We don't follow no rules!" the first thug growled.

Stiles brought a used-to-be-tied-up hand forward, wagging a finger at him. "Someone's asking to be punished!"

"YOU..."

Howls floated in. Close. Very close.

Stiles grinned. All teeth. "That's my husband. And his uncle. And Chris Argent is just behind."

The thugs turned and fled in terror.

Thought I'd try my hand at a drabble today. It's been awhile since I wrote something for these guys. Too long, actually.

The Bitter Taste of Fear

Sterek, General Audiences, 100 words | Stiles doesn't regret what he did, even if it has Derek angry at him.

Stiles trailed after Derek into the loft, ignoring the fierce, yellow glow from his eyes as it bounced off the windowpanes.

He knew the werewolf was pissed. Disappointed and afraid for him.

But Stiles had no choice. There had been fifty-fifty odds that Derek might not survive the fight, and he’d rather have the tart taste of the wolf’s riled fear in his mouth than the knowledge that he hadn’t done everything he could to save the other man’s life in his brain.

So yeah, Derek could be furious with him.

Alive and furious was better than dead any day.

Derek’s preparing lunch for his son—hummus and potato chip sandwiches, cut into triangles; the meal of choice for the last week—when he notices Eli playing with a new toy.

The recent addition must be his mate’s doing.

“Who’s that?”

“It’s Stiles! The knight in sparkling armor who will save the werewolf from the evil hunters!”

Eli’s voice is full of exuberance, but Derek’s alarmed.

He hisses as he cuts his hand in distraction.

“Eli, where did you hear that name?”

It’s an apt description of his mate, but they’ve stopped using their real names since fleeing Beacon Hills.

THERE'S EVIL IN THE AIR AND THERE'S THUNDER IN THE SKY

In the hush of the aftermath, his harsh breaths were somehow more frightening than when the Spearfinger tried eating his liver. 

The Preserve's air was suddenly so dense, like earth in a grave. 

Panic. 

He barely registered the creature's victim, next to him yet miles away. Didn't catch the snapped branches as boots pounded the underscrub. 

Derek crashed through the trees like a bat out of Hell. 

Big hands then held him as pain sluiced from his body like magic—because it was magic.

“I've got you.”

That, he heard. 

The Spearfinger was dead, but only now did Stiles feel safe.

For @sterekdrabbles! January 10th's prompt was lumber, tiny, door, and my thoughts went to a poor, lonely Derek making a tiny house for himself… But it ends happily!

“I’m glad that you have me,” Stiles said.

Derek raised an eyebrow.  “And why is that?” he asked suspiciously.

“You should be thrilled to have such an amazing boyfriend,” Stiles glared at Derek.  “But seriously, I bet if left to your own devices after you lost your betas, you probably would have gone deep into the woods and built a tiny house with lumber you cut yourself and shut the door on humanity forever,” he finished sadly.

Derek reached out and pulled Stiles to him.  “You don’t have to worry about that, because you were always right there beside me.”

The scent of old money and a brand new world greeted Stiles as he entered his betrothed’s ancestral home for the first time.

“So when you said your family was ‘comfortable’, you really meant ‘filthy rich’, right? Like, just, obscene levels of wealth, yeah?”

It was almost comical how sheepishly Derek nodded. My Big Bad Wolf contains multitudes, Stiles thought.

“Worried I was a gold digger?”

“No,” Derek replied, “just the opposite. I was afraid it might scare you off.”

“There’s not enough money in the world to do that,” Stiles promised, drawing his fiancé in for a soft kiss.

"I'll go ahead and say it, I'm very disappointed in both of you." Stiles stands between his dad and Derek, looking from one to the other with a slow shake of his head. Derek is soaked, dripping lake water all over the deck of their rented cabin while the Sheriff does his best to avoid eye contact. Derek breaks first, sullen beneath his floppy fishing hat. "You're the one forcing us to 'bond'. Did you really think, given our history, your dad wouldn't jump at the chance to drown me?" "For Christ's sake, Hale, you fell passing me the rod."
