10 Favorite Fictional Characters
Tagged by the gorgeous sweet rantsofafangirl <33
I’m going into this thinking it’s going to be hard, because there are only so few characters that I could absolutely love enough to put into a top 10 (of all time?) So in no particular order, here they are:
1. Grant Ward (Agents of SHIELD)
Now, I love him for reasons most Ward stans wouldn’t. I don’t love him in a sympathetic, apologetic type of way in which I think he deserves a redemption arc. No, I love Ward as a villain. I love Ward as the guy who throws sexist shade at strong female characters. I love Ward as the guy who is always plotting to get revenge, because it’s what he’s best at. I love seeing him on screen and think “god, he’s a piece of shit, I love it.” Good!Ward was the most boring bland cardboard cutout I’d ever seen, so when he turned out to be Hydra, he become 1000x more interesting to me.
2. Stannis (Game of Thrones)
This love has been a fluctuating one for me. At first, I saw Stannis as the “boring” Baratheon. He lacked the pompousness of Robert and the charm of Renly. But as time went by (and more people I loved died) I’m really starting to cheer this guy on and I would be devastated if he died (which he probably will). He’s a great dad (see “High Sparrow”) and a great military leader.
3. Sansa Stark (Game of Thrones) - Sorry, I got worked up about this one
Okay fuck off if you don’t love Sansa. Like sure, she was annoying in the first season when all she cared about was marrying some guy and living happily ever after - is it so rare that a 13 yr old girl would want that that you could condemn her for it?? Move fucking past it! Her father was murdered, she was beaten, abused and nearly raped under the Lannisters’ captivity, while she had to hear her mother and all her brothers were killed (Arya, for all she knew could be dead too.) And I hate, I repeat I hate when people compare her to Arya. How people say she should have taken a stand against the Lannisters, pushed Joffrey off that ledge while she had the chance because no--she would have been killed if she’d done that. If Arya was in Sansa’s place, she would have been killed right off the bat for her fiery temper and her loose tongue. Likewise, if Sansa was in Arya’s place, she’d be dead too because she doesn’t know how to fight. They’re both surviving in their own way. What I love so much about Sansa is that she learns very quickly how to play the game. She sits quietly, but she observes. She learns how to read the people around her. And through all the shit she’s been through, Sansa is still kind. She saved that jester from drowning in wine. She saved Tyrion from public humiliation by helping him pick up the goblet. This girl has a heart of gold despite everything that’s happened to her. So fuck off if you still hate Sansa, or you like her more now because she’s more “badass.” Fuck off, you’ve been too blinded with comparing her to Arya that you haven’t been able to see that she’s been badass.
4. Eddie Thawne (The Flash)
This guy is still a mystery to me, what with the Malcolm Thawne predictions and the possibility that he may be a villain. But with what we currently have seen from Eddie, I love him. I love his backstory, being the kid of a corrupt politician, getting bullied and never really having friends and yet he’s still this bright ball of sunshine (okay I’m starting to see a pattern here). He’s so optimistic, and so caring of other people--strangers, even--despite the fact that he’s not really included in Team Flash, or that Joe basically sees him as nothing more than a bother, or the fact that Barry (a guy he considers his best friend) probably has a good list of guys he’d consider his best friend before Eddie. Ugh I just want Eddie protected at all costs and I wish there was a way to let a fictional character know that I set up this network for him and that loads of people would want to be his friend
5. Clint Barton (Avengers, MCU)
I love this guy which each new thing I learn about him. I inhaled all the Matt Fraction Hawkeye comics in like one day (maybe two?) and what I get is that Clint virtually has no idea what is going on, just that he likes to help people even when he knows he’s going to end up trashed. always. I also love that the Hawkeye Initiative - look it up, it’s basically sexist poses in comics redone with male superheroes - is named after him.
6. Bob Belcher (Bob’s Burgers)
If you don’t already watch Bob’s Burgers, you really should. It’s not dumb shit humor like Family Guy, it actually has very clever puns and jokes as well as important life lessons. I love Bob because he’s a great dad, unlike Peter Griffin. While his preteen daughter Tina is going through puberty and boys and liking Equestranauts, he never shames her for being herself. My favorite is when she wants to get her legs waxed and when she’s too scared to do it by herself, Bob gets his legs waxed with her.
I love Thea Queen and I wish people would stop treating her like she’s this kid who needs to be protected from the world. She can most definitely handle herself and she knows what she wants. I love her need for honesty from others (something I really relate to) as well as her being spiteful when she finds out someone lied to her. She’s a strong and caring person, despite everything that’s happened to her.
8. Bellamy Blake (the 100)
At first, I didn’t like Bellamy because he was this cocky ass who only cared about himself and his sister, going to great lengths just to make sure he wasn’t found. But then when they started revealing his backstory, started showing his relationship with Octavia was when I really started to like him.
9. Jemma Simmons (Agents of SHIELD)
My tiny science baby that must not be harmed under any circumstances!! Fresh out of the Academy, she’s been through so much than I bet she ever expected. I just hope that she’s okay (mentally, emotionally, physically, etc) because she’s always worrying over everything, always being told to make something work or get something done or save someone’s life.
10. Leo Fitz (Agents of SHIELD)
I love Fitz as the team’s best friend, he just seems to work well with just about everybody (albeit, I’ve never seen Bobbi and Fitz interact, nor Fitz and May really). I love that he’s a good foil for Simmons in that he most definitely works around rules whereas she loves them. He loves to work outside the box while Simmons thrives inside it (not necessarily a bad thing).
Sorry for the rants, this kind of turned more into a 10 characters defense squad than a 10 favorite characters thing. Okay, so tagging
