for the sake of completeness here’s a little reminder that one of adam parrish’s most iconic flirting moments is when he goes scrying on ronan’s bmw and when ronan asks him why he doesn’t lock his shitbox he casually deadpans that there’s “no point, hooligans got in anyway” thus acknowledging the gift of both the hand lotion and the mix tape and leaving ronan too shook to do anything other than smile thinly and spontaneously combust.
the beauty of adam and blue’s friendship is that it’s born out of a failed relationship and yet they’re able to go past that and build something new from the ashes. it’s that the first thing adam tells blue is he didn’t want to just pick her up, that he always thinks of her as an equal, that he introduces her to his group of friends and is not afraid to tell her that she looks nice and to hold her hand in front of them. it’s that blue gives adam her number because she thinks he’s a boy she could have a conversation with, that he’s the first boy her two rules seem not to apply to, because of his smile and his honest expression. it’s that they’re so careful around each other after their break up, that adam is afraid to touch blue’s hand and that blue’s all embarrassed to look at him, but they get over their inhibitions and their differences and their friendship becomes so much stronger because of that.Â
adam and blue become best friends because they care about each other. adam is horrified when he loses his temper with her, never wants to hurt her and understands her with a single look. blue cries when she has to tell him he isn’t her true love, offers to stay with him at persephone’s reading just after that, doesn’t want him to know about her feelings for gansey so she doesn’t cause him more pain and suffering. they exchange complicit and delighted looks when ronan is singled out, and laugh together at gansey’s most eccentric behaviours and ways of speaking. they go together to do cabeswater’s work even if adam has never brought someone with him on these trips. they often bicker and quarrel, but they’re quick to make up because they never hold grudges against each other, and at the end of the day they’re always there for one another. they have a very similar sense of pride and understanding of life, and are both strong-minded, and that inevitably leads them to fight a lot, but it’s also what brings them closer.Â
adam and blue are best friends because they stick up for each other. adam sticks up for blue when she’s cat-called, even if he doesn’t understand why she’s upset, but since he cares he just wants to back her up. and if gansey tells adam to be careful with ronan’s feeling after adam tells him about kissing ronan, you can bet blue, after learning about the kiss from ronan, is there threatening to break each one of ronan’s fingers if he doesn’t treat adam well and give him all the love he deserves.Â
okay, the last thing i want is to sound ungrateful right now, but. i’m still gonna have to be patient and wait for a taylor swift rock album, haven’t i?
carol and maria practically lived together, raised a daughter together, worked together and acted as a married couple throughout the whole captain marvel movie, but marvel expects us to believe that they’re just best friends, sounds fake but okay.
do you ever think about how adam parrish is so touch-starved that at the time of his relationship with blue he almost had a heart attack every time he was in blue’s personal space or his and blue hands’ brushed against each other. and then when he’s with ronan, just hours after their first kiss, ronan already trusts him enough to let him touch his tattoo, which is this kind of physical representation of his suffering and past trauma, something deeply personal and a symbol of the mask he puts on with others, the tough asshole who seemingly doesn’t give a fuck about anything or anyone, not even himself, but is actually grieving inside. and in spite of all that ronan lets adam look at it in its entirety, touch it and trace its lines and its tangled pattern and in doing so, lets adam see a part of himself that ronan usually keeps buried inside. it’s an important moment for both of them, because ronan has dreamt this, and that dream implied that adam understands the meaning of the ink and therefore really sees him. but imagine how it must have felt for adam, who has likely never experienced real meaningful physical contact with his mother or father, and more generically his close family, probably never received a consolatory hug, has only had a few stolen light touches with his last girlfriend/friend, who also refused to kiss him and to give him a reason for that, never had someone else trust him completely with their body and letting him fully feel all the sensations that every touch prompts. but ronan gives him that. consciously or unconsciously he gives him exactly what he needs the most, on top of loving him so much that my little heart might melt just by thinking about it.Â
thinking about it, was even ronan really attracted to k*avinsky? his relationship with k was coming from a place of self-hatred and repression, fueled by the self-destructive tendencies that he exhibits before and during dt, and based solely on competition and street racing and adrenaline. and that’s without taking into account k’s homophobic slurs towards ronan and that ronan himself admits that deep down he knows k is nothing short of despicable. this just doesn’t look like attraction to me, this is just a period of unhealthy obsession that ends abruptly the moment ronan learns to stop hating himself. not recognizing the obvious abusive aspects of their relationship and romanticizing it is just blatantly ignore canon.
one thing that i feel hasn’t been given the right amount of attention is that for his entire life adam parrish has only ever experienced one kind of affection, that derived from the friendship bond he has with gansey, ronan, noah and then blue. but then all of a sudden he has ronan, his boyfriend, representing the romantic kind of love, but also opal, who, by becoming almost like a daughter, or a little ageless sibling (whichever you prefer), to ronan and adam, gives him the opportunity to experience the familial kind of love. and of course the situation with opal is inverse, because he gets to be the parental figure, the care-taker, as opposed to the one who’s cared for, so he will never fully know what it feels to be loved by your own parents as a child, tucked in to bed by your mother, or taught how to drive by your father which is heart-breaking, but it gives him something he that perhaps he needs even more at this point. it gives him the definitive awareness that the abuse he’d endured as a child hasn’t shaped him as a person, and especially hasn’t made him a monster like his father, something he’d feared until not so many months before. instead he’s a boy who has so much love to give inside himself, that is capable of showing it in so many ways, like sleeping in a car next to ronan when he’s mourning or letting ronan dream him a fix for his car so he can come back to him. and it just shows how he can and will be an amazing, loving, affectionate, caring, tender-hearted boyfriend or parent or sibling or friend or anything else he wants to be, because yeah, maybe he’s had little love but he’s a quick learner and eager to reciprocate all the affection he finally gets to receive.Â
