the idea that "thats just the [mental illness] talking" is so stigmatizing. what people mean when they say that is: 1. you're saying that purely because of your mental illness (debateable?) and 2. because its mental illness, it is inherently false (not true) and 3. we should not look any deeper than that because 4. Anything other than mindless denial would be dangerous (also false).

Like gee i wonder why mentally ill people are so much more likely to face abuse and violence. Could it be that society at large sees all mental illnesses on a spectrum of Inherently Untrustworthy Mind Disease? This is how people get gaslit.

Its also a huge issue with depression that ive taken particular notice of, the assumption that negativity, especially extreme negativity, is immediately pathologized and dismissed as "not seeing things how they really are" with zero actual care to examine the facts. It argues that negative beliefs, thoughts, and feelings are inherently disordered and untrue. Which is so wild because that is so obviously factually incorrect. Lots of parts of life are bad.

This is such basic compssion and respect and critical thinking: What are the factual reasons why this person is saying this, and what is the purpose? For me, my expressions of negativity were mostly factual, and even in the parts that werent 100% fact based, i was still communicating important information in the form of emotional expression. This is so basic. Instead of facts (and facts about my emotional state as a result of those terribke facts) being heard, all i got was, essentially, "you're crqzy."

again. If you think about it at all this becomes so clear. The reason why this is not clear to laypeople and also psych professionals, is because they do not actually think. All those dismissive phrases are thought stopping cliches. They sum up a complicated material and psychological phenomenon, Falsely, in order to whisk it away and diminish it. It is the opposite of curiosity. It is a dismissal and it is violence. And its fucking stigmatizing too! the pathologizing of negativity is absolutely an ideological goal as opposed to a health one. my fucking god these experts are ignorant on purpose and it ruins peoples lives.

fascinating thing about sinners is how absolutely doomed the narrative is.

idk it both adds to the horror that there was no way out and just solidifies sammie saying it was the best day of his life, like that one little perfect moment was all they were going to get anyway
