okay sid meier’s civilization twitter account, you win this one
(IMAGE ID: a screenshot of the Sid Meier’s Civilization Twitter account. It displays six different images of Alexander the Great from six different Civilization games which look drastically different, ranging from lionlike leader to rat-faced little bitch to alpha chin man to blonde guy I guess to that dude that’s on the cover of every paperback romance to discarded Shrek human design. The account has captioned these images “Did you do something with your hair, Alexander?”)
I have the disc to play Civilization 4, and I have a computer with a disc drive... but uh. apparently due to anti-piracy stuff they added to Windows 10 the game refuses to run. I tried setting up a VM running a version of windows without the stupid anti-piracy stuff, but then it demanded that the VM have a disc drive (despite the whole program already being loaded onto it? for some reason?), and I could not figure out how to make the VM think it had a disc drive, and after a few months decided to just get rid of the VM and civ 4 files to save space. I contacted the company who owns Civ 4, and found that they had a system where you could show you had the disc and then get a key for it on steam, but when I went to go use the system, I found it was DISCONTINUED! Meaning that despite literally having a legally purchases copy of Civ 4 in my house, I cannot play it, and therefore the only possible way to play Civ 4 is to pirate it.
I used to play civ 4 a lot (eh moderate amount) in high school and my main was Alexander the Great and I really liked playing with standard - larger sized maps and I swear to god every time I played a game where America spawned into the world they were in last place the ENTIRE game.
Every.
Single.
Time.
One time I even accidentally made an American Diaspora by defeating all the American cities/land but for some reason this didn’t trigger the game to recognize America as an extinct civilization and instead kept George Washington on the board as a leader of a landless civilization with the lowest possible score

I kinda want to play a bunch of Civilization 4 BtS again.
It's been years since I last played, yet it remains one of my all-time favorites.
Plus, Civ 5 and 6 both have the non-stacking units issue--one of my best friends, Thor, insists quite fervently that the non-stacking units issue is not a bug but "a deliberate feature that the devs explicitly emphasized in 5's development", but I remain unconvinced.
Hopefully they patch the non-stacking units bugs in 5 and 6 soon.
Play a civilization game for 7 hours, forget to enable the autosave, and don’t save the game.
It crashes.
