rowan caufield trailed after her brother cole into the montreal canadiens locker room.
she was taking some time to visit him and the team before she had to head back to toronto for her own training camp to start.
"there she is!" captain nick suzuki said when he saw her coming in, coming over to hug her.
"finally! the better caufield's here." cole's roommate, christian dvorak exclaimed.
"at least we we won't have to hear him complain about missing her anymore." alex newhook commented.
jake evans raised an eyebrow. "yeah, only for a couple weeks." he said.
brendan gallagher came over, giving her a hug of his own. "did you get shorter?" he teased, ruffling her hair.
"very funny." she said, rolling her eyes.
across the room, kaiden guhle, arber xhekaj, and juraj slafkovsky looked at jayden struble.
he only officially joined the team last season when rowan wasn't around as much due to her own season.
"hey, you see caufield's sister over there? total smokeshow, right?" arber asked struble.
he nodded. "you know, she's single." kaiden said.
"we'll each give you fifty bucks if you go ask her out and she says yes." slaf said.
"alright, bet." struble said, standing up and walking over to where rowan was talking with cole, nick, and gally as arber, kaiden, and slaf lost it.
"hey, rowan, right?" struble started. "we don't know each other well, but how about we get coffee some time and change that?" he asked.
everyone turned to stare at him as rowan turned to look at cole.
"does he not know?" she asked.
cole crossed his arms in amusement. "clearly not."
"sorry, struble. but you're not my type." she started.
kirby dach patted struble on the back. "brace yourself." he whispered.
"i'm gay. like, really gay." rowan said.
struble froze. "oh, i'm sorry." he said and then turned to arber, kaiden, and slaf, who were dying with laughter. "you guys set me up." he said, accusingly.
"yes, and it was hilarious." slaf said as arber held his hand out for the money from struble.
"besides, my girlfriend wouldn't like it if i said yes." rowan said.
