Mewgenics request: Reader that wants to help the mini bosses. Like take care of them and give them a nice home and whatnot. Can either include the house bosses too if you want
I've gotten a handful of requests about the cat minibosses so I gotchu! (gotta make it clear this is all platonic. Just Reader taking care of a bunch of superpowered cats from each Act of the game).
Alley Cats (Magnus, Lucy, Fenrir, Maisie)
I like the headcanons that Butch personally trained them so I'm rolling with that.
This group has never known the meaning of an "easy life". If they aren't trying to kill to survive, they're constantly on their guard 24/7.
But when you ran into Maisie and saw she was just a tired and old soul trying to help her kittens, you realized you couldn't stand for this cruelty.
It took a lot to gain her trust, but eventually she let you take her to your home: a safe place where there's always food, air conditioning, comfortable bedding, and of course..baths for her and her kittens (as much as they whined, they were stinky babies who needed them badly).
Rounding up the next one, to nobody's surprise, took a bit more time and an ungodly amount of patience.
Magnus liked to fight. A lot. Even when you try showing him you just wanted to help. He scratched at your arms and legs, smashed any traps you've set, etc. etc. He just wasn't having it.
You only succeeded at cat-napping him after he ran into a wall and knocked himself out.
Coincidentally, Lucy and Fenrir have been watching your attempts to catch him, assessing how much they could trust you.
Maisie snuck out of your house to meet them, assuring the two that you were true to your word and have kept her and all her kittens safe.
They just exchange one glance and approached you as you're trying to shove Magnus into a refined cat carrier, expressing their desires to go with you.
A day or so after that, their fur is clean and you allow them to exercise their abilities in relative safety.
But obviously you didn't want Lucy accidentally starting fires in your house, so you bought a water feeder to keep that element dampened.
She's capable of controlling her powers easily, although she's more than willing to give Magnus a little jolt of electricity every now and then if he tries to pick another fight with you (or any other cat you may happen to own).
Fenrir mostly keeps to themselves, hiding underneath your couch and/or bed, crafting bear traps to defend your home's perimeter.
It's become a place they could trust, and as such it must be well-fortified.
Although it's not the most welcoming sight when you're trying to come home from work and see dozens of traps outside.
Magnus was the last to warm up to you, acting like his usual "big and bad"-self, scratching up your furniture and trying to intimidate Maisie's kittens (in his eyes, he's helping them "toughen up").
Something tells you that Butch was extremely harsh on him during training, and while you'd like to give him a few bruises yourself..you had a cat to rehabilitate first.
And you succeeded by basically showing the fighter respect, rewarding him for good behavior, buying a few training dummies for the backyard, and giving the chain he wears a good polish.
He still acts like a little asshole, but now he has respect for you too, even allowing you to clean the dirt and blood from his claws.
Sometimes he'll curl up on the couch next to you, although he didn't want you to pet him....not yet at least.
The other alley cats think he's growing soft and find it sweet...but he'll deny it until the day he dies.
Desert Cats (Morana, Marshmallow, Dack, Gein)
The desert was sweltering, brutal, unforgiving...and it was survival of the fittest. Much like the alley.
So when you ran into this diverse group of cats, you didn't know what to expect.
Gein and Morana looked scary, giving you stares that screamed "get the hell out of our sight or you're in for a world of hurt".
But Marshmallow actually welcomed your presence, urging them to calm down, understanding that you're here to help them.
How she could've known your good intentions was beyond you (but then again, it may simply be the nature of clerics, who tend to see good in everyone).
Surprisingly, they were all willing to go with you and leave the desert at the same time, clearly not wanting to be separated. But they also had their own reasons, too.
You mentioned food to Gein once, and that's all the convincing he needed.
Morana wanted a dark and quiet place to practice her magic, and you conveniently had a basement for exactly that purpose.
Dack owed a massive debt to Zodiac AND Gambit after cheating at a poker game, so.....any chance to escape with his shillings is one he's eager to take.
They've settled into your house quite nicely. It's shaded, water is always guaranteed, and they don't have to worry about poisonous snakes or cactus people sneaking up on them.
The only headaches come when you're reprimanding Gein for eating you out of house and home, Morana for trying to summon something evil, or Dack for snatching coins out of your savings just because he wants to.
Even Marshmallow, who you thought would be on your side and help them fall in line with your rules, would simply meditate in blissful ignorance.
She was just there for the vibes.
But in the end, they're just grateful that you've been so generous and kind to this little ragtag group. So they don't cause you too much trouble or property damages.
Lab Cats (Chan Hung, Alice, Draven, Franklin)
Oh..these poor, poor kitties.
After discovering the true horrors of Dr. Beanies' lab during your first visit, you found the group and took it upon yourself to rescue them.
You took pity on the half-humans and countless Stacy clones, but they were far too aggressive and failed to understand your desires to help.
Fortunately, the cats you stumbled upon were capable of being reasoned with.
Chan Hung was most suspicious of you and your intentions--and rightfully so, as the only humans he's seen were either that crazy bastard or his experiments who've lost their humanity long ago.
He'd dodge every attempt you made at catching him, wanting to "test" how far you'd go before giving up.
But...you never did, and after Alice communicated this fact to him, he stopped fighting and decided to put his trust in you.
Franklin and Draven took very little convincing. As long as the tinkerer got to tinker with his inventions and the druid got to take care of his crows in safety...that's all they cared about tbh.
So now you have this group of tortured lab-bred misfits getting used to the feeling of a warm house with comfortable bedding...and not being woken up at ungodly hours because Dr. Beanies felt bored and had a new syringe to stick in them.
Obviously, taking care of them all didn't come without its challenges.
You had to scold Draven NUMEROUS times to stop letting his crows and squirrels rummage through your food supply.
But the mf can be a slinky one whenever he goes into his squirrel form and wriggles out of your grasp constantly.
Often times you'll wonder where Franklin is.....until you hear some maniacal meowing that sound like laughter coming from your backyard, where you'd find him adding something new to his mech suit.
"No. Stop. How ever you assembled that, I'd like you to disassemble it now please."
"I shouldn't have to explain why attaching a nuke to your mech's holster is a good idea."
Despite their varying personalities, the one thing they all share is how quickly they ended up confiding in you, being a person they could trust when memories/nightmares of the lab come back to surface.
Sometimes it's Alice having a terrible premonition that you got killed and she jumps onto your lap, wanting you to reassure her you'll try to avoid that fate.
Other times it's Chan Hung jolting awake from his nap, panicked and frightened by the things he's seen in those cages....until he feels your gentle hands petting his fur.
No matter what time, day or night, you'll always be there to comfort these kitties, giving them the love they were deprived of for so long.
