Take My Hand
While we band together for our athletes, there’s a girl in the streets A good life gone to waste but why do we judge with such haste?
We say she chose to live this way let her be alone another day She’s seeking shelter from the storm but hey, aren’t we just living the norm?
Preaching politics, Not considering our antics claiming its not my responsibility to solve a problem that isn’t about me
Idolizing men in suits, who make the problem mute What makes you think they care? You are nothing so long as they get their share.
Another penny for their thoughts, another life that is lost. Yet we claim they know, We give them the center stage for another show.
Someone needs to do something about that, So tell me where is that someone at? Is it the men and women born into money, Spoon fed privilege like sugar sweet honey?
Is it the ones on tv, Who know nothing about what it’s like to be me? Playing with poverty Without experiencing what it means to be a minority.
God, gods, or godless, there’s one thing you can’t dismiss. These riches won’t last in the dust These riches we give our trust.
There’s more than meets the eye, yet they can’t hear her cry: “I need a miracle tonight, Why won’t you help me fight?”
Have you looked in the mirror lately? I swear that someone could be me. That person who knows the real pain of drowning in the rain.
Regardless of color we are suffering With this girl of nothing, Love is the only thing that will stand. So won’t you please take my hand?
I am only one, but I have only just begun. Together we can create a wave, we can be the ones that save.
Perhaps one day they will look down, they will leave their paper crown. Abandon their castle made of sand, and finally begin to take a stand.
There will be a time, when showing love isn’t a crime. Until that day, It’s up to us to lead the way.
