Let’s bring the Prog Rock community back to life!
Many friends of mine, as well as myself, had sensed recently a sudden, unexplaied urge, need, desire to return to a fandom that they had left, some of them a really long time ago - the Progressive Rock fandom.
I swear to God, I was drawn back in, after more than two years I haven’t listened to even one Prog song, or piece - you name it.
I, personally, had been a part of the Prog fandom since the middle of 2016, give or take, and left it a year or two later because certain occurrences had given me some really bad time, and left me with a desperate need to ‘move on’ and start a new chapter in my life.
2016 and 2017 had been rough years for many of us, and included many painful, untimely losses of some of the greatest Prog legends out there. I know that this is the reason why me - and perhaps others as well - had left the fandom.
While I’ve personally been away from Tumblr (and/or Discord, for instance) during some of 2017 and most of 2018-2019, I have heard that the remaining Prog fandom has divided into some kind of ‘cliques’, and has become full of toxicity and criticism, and the negative, rude discourse had caused many of the reamining people to leave.
It was upsetting to hear that people got hurt, and that the fandom basically fell apart - I’ve been thinking about it recently, and I’ve had an idea.
It might be the time for something new. It might be the time do do something.
It might be the time for creating a new generation of the Prog Rock fandom.
A more kind, accepting, communicative and positive community, in which people could share their enthusiasm without having to fear that they’d be mocked or criticised, because after all - we’re all human beings, and I want to believe that none of us had come here to ruin other people’s life.
Everyone is welcome, of course - doesn’t matter if you’ve been a fan for 3 days or 10 years or if you’re back after a long hitaus - as long as you aren’t rude or mean, you’re in!
Progressive Rock is such an amazing music genre, and no one has to be a toxic, pretentious fuck just to be considered a fan. Really.
So, who wants in? I believe that we can develop a beautiful community, share our favourite musicians and their legacy, give the genre the honour it deserves.
I have a feeling that this is the time for the Prog’s awakening.
