Just reading Jane Eyre for my syllabus and I have to say how having heard of it before, I had not really thought I would be able to find the will to read on the story of a little girl who was kept in such awful circumstances, ill-treated by everyone around her, (I in fact had tried it before but given up early on) but now I'm only on chapter four ig and Jane speaks up her mind against Mrs Reed, all about how she'll never forget how she's been treated in Gateshead and the distress in her words, and how the tumultuous state of her mind is trinkling right into Brontë's words...that's language at its rawest form, completely stripped-down. I'm hooked.
