10 anime i enjoyed throughout the decade!

Finished watching Toradora; not a patch on Full Metal Panic. It's a decent romantic drama, but I still want my 9-odd hours back; it really lost me when a teenager shouting at his overworking single mother that she was irresponsible got played as a sign of maturity. Angel Beats similarly played out the overblown emotions of a mob of teenagers too quirky to be especially likable. None of FMP's life and death drama or genuine comedy, none of Haibane Renmei's beautiful, brilliant portrayal of human struggle and peace. So, note to self, avoid anime high school dramas of the late 2000's, even if the worst of them are better than Goblin Slayer, Shield Hero, Tanya the Evil and the similarly arrogant, chauvinist toe rags in bad high school anime of the 2010s like Classroom of the Elite.

But Classroom Crisis and Assassination Classroom were two of the best anime of the century, thus far, since they gave their kids a more real and serious problems to sort out than contrived romantic tomfoolery. If you're going to write a pure romantic drama, make it very strong and never stick in that extra misunderstanding or bad decision to get another episode.

Don't start a new series at 9pm... You will stay up all night to finish it because you're able to watch a few episodes and immediately fall into the trap of "What happens next????" as you hit the next episode button at 2.30am
