After almost being assassinated by the Church at Enbarr, Edelgard reassesses the state of the Empire. She needs to reduce how many fronts of war she is fighting. Obviously, the logical choice is to get into a political marriage with Claude von Reigan, the least hostile of her enemies. Claude doesn't know why Edelgard is proposing this marriage, but it can't be because she genuinely wants an Alliance. Determined to ferret out her true intentions, Claude tentatively agrees, ready to exploit whatever weaknesses he finds while negotiating. But there are forces at play which will force them to come together, whether they fully trust each other or not...

Here’s the first chapter of a longifc, arranged marriage edelclaude that is a canon-divergence from Chapter 9 in both Golden Wildfire and Scarlet Blaze, where they make an Alliance between Enbarr and Leicester. 

I kept telling myself I can't start another longfic. I have so many other things I ought to be working on right now, but Three Hopes consumed my brain, and I can't help it. I love political intrigues and arranged marriages and Edelgard and Claude's alliance in Three Hopes is genuinely interesting and fun, and I desperately wanted to add to the content for this ship.

More ideas for it:

Claude von Riegan, Defense Attorney

Studies various justice systems around the world and found himself interested in the corrupt Fodlan court

Collected friends along the way including Lysethia who ends up assisting him (and keep him from looking like a total idiot, so shes basically his Maya)

“What was the cause of death?” “Oh my god just read the court record before we both look like fools”

Finds out about this ‘Demon Prosecutor’ and really wants to expose the issues around the Prosecutors as a whole

Boy howdy does he attract the wrong attention by going up against her

Does not let up in the slightest

While he does flirt a little in court (like the five year timeskip, like, they weren’t even subtle there), he really dislikes Edelgard at first for being dismissive about the underhanded dealings

He knows there’s more there, so he tries to defend whomever she’s prosecuting, trying each time to get more and more information

Finds out she’s very much like him, just under different circumstances

Ends up uncovering the Slithers and gets targeted (probably gets blamed for more than one murder)

But because of the friends he made along the way, everyone comes together to find the truth

Edelgard von Hresvelg, Demon Prosecutor

Old friend of Lysethia who went missing years ago, came back in the news as Arundel’s prodigy

Became a center of rumors about tampered evidence, blackmailed witnesses, and various other wrongdoings

Really dislikes Claude for trying to dig a bit too deep into her

Turns out she was manipulated by her mentor into becoming a prosecutor in the first place

Slowly opens up before getting threatened by Arundel, causing her to even prosecute against one of her friends (Bernadetta, because of course)

Ends up being framed for a murder and Claude defends her, knowing something is up, while Arundel prosecutes

Once it gets revealed what Arundel and his group were doing to her and others, she opens up more and works with Claude to find the truth as the new chief prosecutor

There was some more ideas for a follow up or something (because c’mon, Ferdinand and Hubert are Phoenix and Edgeworth) but I probably won’t spend days drawing it…
