Original 1930s editions of newspaper supplement, LE PETIT VINGTIÈME in which Tintin appeared.
Hergé—creator of Tintin—pioneered what has become known as the “clear line” drawing style, but the early comics were much looser. There’s a kind of spontaneity and liveliness to them that his later comics missed, in my opinion. It all became so polished, so sterile. I’m completely alone there though. Ever the perfectionist, Hergé would redraw many of his stories later, often with help from his collaborator, Bob de Moor.
