If you're still taking art suggestions, do you think you could draw Barbara Gordon, as Oracle, in this dress, please? (From the 2021 Grammys, if you need to look up more references.)
Thank you so much!
asdfghj I lov the gold on that! I'd so love to draw her in this :D
She's enjoying some nice coffee <3
Agnarr: Iduna, have you seen my suit jacket and medals? I can't find them anywhere.
Iduna: I haven't seen them.
Elsa: [walks in wearing Agnarr's jacket and medals]
Elsa, impersonating Agnarr: "Elsa, go do something you hate! Being miserable builds character!"
If you'd like to talk, there's an interesting Mandalorian character detail I'd like to share. Din's name has a dual meaning from Hebrew: "din" usually is used to mean "judgement", but it can also mean "justice", particularly, in both cases, in the divine sense. And I feel like that illustrates not just the strict orthodoxy of the religion/creed he grew up with, of the harsh ways and low points of his life, but also his character development over the course of the show: fighting for and standing with others who need his help, who can't fight for themselves. "Judgement" and "justice" both being concepts that can be strict and unforgiving when it's necessary, but also having vital moments of kindness and mercy for those who need it. And I kind of can't wait to see, as his story goes on, how he'll keep living up to the "justice" aspect in particular.
That’s so interesting! I think I’ve seen a post or two talking about the meanings his name carries, but to think about them in the terms of how well they actually work into his character and arc is so cool.
Like you said, with both of the meanings for his name coming from the divine sense, it just really works for the story that is being told about his character. Even just with the premise of the show as a whole, The Mandalorian is very influenced by the western- a genre that is often about those two things: justice and judgement. Din growing and changing to embody that 'judgement' and 'justice' in different ways is so compelling. Because thinking about it that really works in parallel to his job as a bounty hunter too, that role making him the proverbial judge, jury and executioner for those that he's sent to find- and then that shifting like you said once he starts to develop over the show, his priorities changing to instead be a protector upholding those traits. Showing his judgement and justice with a more personal intention behind the actions as he gains more to lose- as his perception of judgement and justice changes. It will indeed be interesting to see how those themes continue to change with him, especially as we go into this new season that seems like it's going to focus a lot on the implications of him now being the one who wields the darksaber and how that judgement and justice may come into play with him now in a position of leadership among his people.
""Judgement" and "justice" both being concepts that can be strict and unforgiving when it's necessary, but also having vital moments of kindness and mercy for those who need it." - THIS, THIS IS EXACTLY IT! Especially with Din's character, I think this is the absolute best way to describe how truly those ideas fit into who he is and make for such complex and meaningful moments and how knowing and appreciating that just adds that layer on.
Thank you so much for sharing!
5, 6, 11, 13, 14, 24, & 26!
5. what was your relationship with books like as a child?
deeply intense & tempestuous! i moved to the uk when i was abt 3 so english is my 2nd lang. as a result, i used to hate reading as a young child bc it made me feel dumb & i was already bullied for not being able to speak eng. this all changed when my dad bought me a copy of eldest by christopher paolini which had a cool dragon on the front cover. i read it despite having to look up every other word & fell in love. i reread it like 50 times & began to read all the time, esp bc i was a sad, lonely, bullied kid w barely any friends & a hyperactive imagination. i'm a lot happier now but i can truly say that reading saved me & it's why i applied for english at uni :)
6. are you the type of person who will read a book to the end whether you like it or not, or will you put it down straight away if you're not feeling it?
defo the former! once i pick up a book, i feel a sense of duty to finish it & i always hold out hope bc i've read various books which start off slow but get better as the story progresses. i have put down a book before if i'm rlly not feeling it but it's v rare. i've also read books which ik i won't enjoy just to see whether it rlly is as bad as everyone says it is (e.g the entire twilight series) so there's that too lmao
11. do you prefer to read at a certain time of day?
not rlly! i like reading at any time of day but it is nice to read in the evening / late morning too
13. how do you choose which book to read next?
i have a list. usually what will happen is someone will recommend a good book to me or i'll find a book i like the look of online & so i'll add it to my list so i can read it later. it's not a chronological list tho; i just read whatever i fancy from the list
14. what is your favourite children's book?
it's not rlly a children's book but i read it as a child so i'd say the inheritance cycle by christopher paolini. also the percy jackson & the olympians series by rick riordan. a proper kids book that i like is the little prince or moby dick
24. do you prefer happy or sad endings?
i prefer good endings. idrm whether an ending is happy or sad as long as it's written well & it provides a satisfying conclusion to the story. i am most fond of bittersweet endings tbh but that doesn't mean they're always the best (although they hit different when they're done right)
26. a book you studied in school and ended up loving?
i usually end up loving books i study at school! the ones that stand out to me are animal farm by george orwell, all my sons and a view from the bridge by arthur miller (although these are plays) & persuasion by jane austen
So last night I watched Soul because you said you loved it ... and you were right, it was absolutely wonderful. I'm really glad you said so.
its literally the best movie i’ve seen all year i won’t ever get over it
@clearbluewaters
Cereal first, he's very particular about it
clearbluewaters
Babs doesn't care, but if she put the milk first he would flip out so she usually doesn't (unless she wants to mess with him)
Oh yeah, Dick is definitely protective with his cereal habits. I can just see Babs after a long night on the comms, tired out of her mind putting milk first and him going “BARBARA”
'I know exactly where i’m going; getting closer, closer every day' please!
written while high as a kite
They had been in the car for two days and sixteen hours. Damian’s hips were hurting from the cramp sedan Grayson had rented for their impromptu “Bro Trip”. Damian had tried to sit behind Grayson, but Drake had pulled a move that nearly impressed Damian and secured his spot for the ride firmly behind Grayson. That meant he was stuck behind Todd. The largest brother in the family. Damian, in short, was getting really tired of having his knees up his nostrils.
“I know exactly where I’m going,” Grayson muttered over the sound of Simon and Garfunkel.
Drake met his eyes. When Damian looked up to the rearview mirror, he could see Todd’s confused eyes.
“What did you say?” Drake whispered.
“Getting closer,” Grayson muttered again.
“Todd, check his pulse,” Damian ordered up as he buckled in. If somehow Grayson got possessed at the last truck stop, he’d have a better chance surviving a rolling vehicle if he was buckled up.
“On it,” Todd answered as his fingers pressed to Grayson’s neck.
“Closer every day! You guys! We have two more days of driving? Aren’t you excited?”
“Pulse is fine,” Todd said as he leaned back. “Dick? You feeling okay?”
“Fine,” Grayson said at the same Tim said, “Should we call Bruce?”
“No, Bruce knows I’m taking you Canada. Arctic circle-ish area. But yeah, we have about two days left!”
Damian sort of wished that his brother had been possessed. Because that would have meant two less days of having his knees jabbing into the back of Todd’s unnecessarily reclined seat.
