Exam week had been tiring. They didn’t exaggerate in calling them Nastily Exhausting, that’s for sure. His last one done, Percy was ready to fall into bed and not emerge from his flat until graduation. But not long after settling back with a beer, his parents owl was pecking at his door to him let in. With a groan, Percy crossed the room and took the note, giving the owl a few treats in the process. “Seriously?” he muttered, reading the words. His dad was out, and somehow his Mum had broken the tap in the kitchen sink and needed him to come fix it. Surely she could just do that herself. He let out a sigh, and reluctantly started out the door. He’d do this and then he’d go home and not emerge from his flat until graduation.
As he pushed open the front door, Percy began for the kitchen, calling out in the process -- “I’m not sure why you couldn’t have fixed it yourself.” He stopped as he reached the kitchen, finding it dark, empty, and void of a broken tap. “What the fuck?” he said to himself, and then louder, as he started back into the house, “Mum?”
