When people associate climate change with animals they often times think of the scene where a polar bear is stranded on a progressively melting sheet of ice in the Arctic. But did you know that increasing temperatures can effect the process of reproduction? Pictured above is my Clemmys Guttata (spotted turtle). During the embryonic stage of their lives if the temperature is perfect they can spawn males and females, but when the temperature is to hot they will actually only spawn males. This is known as "Temperature-dependent sex determination". With rising temperatures every year you can see how in the long term this can be bad news for spotted turtles and a number of other species of reptiles. All the more reason for people to become more mindful of the very real problem we are faced with in this day and age .#spottedturtle #clemmysguttata
