Simple curiousity here:

As a Vet what would you considered the most annoying part of the job in relation to the animals? And the most annoying part in relation to their guardians?

Also what the same questions but the brightest little thing in relation to both?

(IE. I mean the more mundane things that make your day better/worse, not the big life changing ones for the animals/guardians)

Generally, it is most annoying with the client doesn't communicate with me clearly and then get upset when they didn't get what they want...because they didn't communicate.

The brightest thing is when an animal has completed its treatment and they are allowed to go home. and the owner comes pick them up and they ran full speed to their beloved human.

Those moments are worth everything to me.

Be proactive with your client communications.

Client relationships are all about proactive communication.

And in a business relationship, you have to be the one who takes the initiative.

Clients shouldn't have to send an email and wait for several days before receiving a response. When there is a lack of communication, it's easy for clients to feel like you are Presumptuous about their needs. Sounds like a bad dating relationship.

Instead, you should be proactive by reaching out to your clients and keeping them updated on your progress. Essentially, you become so Meticulous to your clients "in the loop" that they don't have to ask for updates or information because you've already provided it. And then you see your client is very Ecstatic.

When you talk with a client Clear the air, you now know where to stands. It will certainly help in business.

Always try to be one step ahead with your client.

hello! quick question about patient etiquette here. I’m going to be moving within the next 3-4 months (as of November 2022) so my cats will be leaving the national chain vet that I’ve used for the last 5 years. there’s only one vet tech there today who was there 5 years ago, everyone else is pretty new & rotates frequently. she helped me through all of my first cat’s medical issues a few years ago (we were there at least every month), still recognizes me as his parent & chats with me at my now-thankfully-infrequent visits for my current kiddos, and is truly one of the best techs I’ve ever met. would it be inappropriate to write her a thank you card *without* including the rest of the office in it? she just truly went above & beyond and is the only member of his care team left, but I also don’t want to be rude to the rest of the practice (even though I don’t have a relationship with them).

I don't think there's anything wrong with thanking a specific personnel without including others. You have a personal relation, this could be seen as acquaintances personal appreciation.

Another card that generally thank the "hospital" as the organization would be a nice cherry on top, but I don't think it's necessary.

Hello everyone! I want to get a gift for my vet's office as thanks for all the hard work they do, and for how patient and kind they are with my old man cat even though he is a biter. What kind of gift would y'all most appreciate seeing?

Honestly anything at all. A card, food, decoration pieces. etc.

I always tape the cards with the pets photo on it to a cabinet that we can see everyday. It's really a source of joy.

We were told that its unnecessary to deworm an adult dog (1y white shepherd) before vaccination by vet student and gave us vaccination time in 2 days. I have been before strongly advised to deworm 2 weeks before by 3 different vets with my older dog so we ended up changing the time so i have time to deworm. I plan on bringing it up with the vet in someway. Would you mind that owners bring up concerns considering students in unaccusing way or telling what they told just in case?

There is no reason to deworm 2 weeks prior to vaccinations. Deworming and vaccinations can be done on the same day; we do this multiple times a day in my practice. However, if you have concerns about what the vet student told you, you can just say “Do you know why [vet student] recommended XYZ when you recommend ABC?”

Buying a client book, then trimming it

An advisor who purchased a book of 390 clients ended up keeping only about 150 after taking a closer look at the relationships and fit. The decision wasn’t about shrinking the business, but about focusing on clients who aligned with the advisor’s approach and could be properly served.

After the acquisition, many of the inherited clients either didn’t match the firm’s planning style or required a level of service that didn’t make sense for the new structure. Rather than stretching resources thin, the advisor chose to transition a large portion of them elsewhere.

The result was a smaller but more manageable client base, allowing for deeper relationships and more consistent service. It also highlights how buying a practice isn’t just about volume — it’s about compatibility, expectations, and long-term sustainability.

My Thoughts: It’s a reminder that “more clients” isn’t always better — sometimes it just means more mismatch to sort through.
