Council serves up new tennis courts

Hillingdon Council is welcoming residents to join the festivities as it unveils its recently refurbished tennis courts. The announcement was made in anticipation of its free, sports-themed family fun days on May 13th and 14th at Northwood Recreational Ground and Rosedale Park.   The National Tennis Association coaching team, Hillingdon Council's coaching provider, will be present from 9am to 12pm to offer coaching and facilitate residents of all ages and abilities to play and learn more about the sport. Equipment will be provided at both events.   The renovations to the tennis courts in four of the borough's parks, including Rosedale Park, Hayes, Northwood Recreation Ground, Swakeleys Park, Ickenham, and Harmondsworth Recreation Ground, began this spring and will continue into the summer. Council launches consultation on changing parking penalty charges

Hillingdon Council has launched a public consultation on proposed changes to parking fines, aimed at tackling the rising number of parking contraventions in the borough. The consultation will run from today until noon on Monday, 5 June.   According to recent data, the council has seen a significant increase in the number of tickets issued for parking contraventions, with a rise of 29% between 2018/19 and 2021/22. This is in comparison to the London average of 21% during the same period.   Currently, there are two levels for charging parking fines within the capital. Hillingdon Council uses the lower level and hasn't been reviewed since 2011. In an effort to deter non-compliance with parking restrictions, the council proposes increasing the penalty amount to Band A, which is used by 25 of the 32 London Councils and the City of London.   The council believes that by increasing the penalty amount, more people will be deterred from breaking parking rules, resulting in a reduction in the number of fines issued annually. Currently, anyone issued a higher rate parking fine for more serious contraventions gets charged £110, or a reduced charge of £55 if paid within 14 days. A lower rate fine is charged at £60, reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days.   If the proposed changes are implemented, Band A charges will be set at £130 for higher fines and £80 for lower fines, both of which will be reduced by 50% if paid within 14 days.   The public consultation provides an opportunity for residents to provide feedback on the proposed changes. Hayes shopkeeper fined for selling e-cigarettes to children

Last August, during an undercover operation conducted by the council's trading standards team, a child aged 13 entered RK Convenience Store and successfully purchased an Elf Bar 600 disposable vape.   The court also heard that the store had been the subject of an investigation in March 2022 following a report from a member of the public that they had been selling vaping devices to children.   Following this incident, Kumar had received a written warning from the council and training materials to help him comply with the law surrounding age-restricted products.   When handing down the sentence, the magistrates gave the defendant credit for his guilty plea but noted that he had failed to adhere to the guidance provided by the council.   In total, Kumar has been ordered to pay £1,364 which includes a fine of £403, victim surcharge of £161 and the council's costs of £800.    #hayes #shopkeeper #fined #e-cigarettes #ecigarettes #vapes #undercoveroperation #undercover #tradingstandards #mhra Read the full article

Hayes homeowners ordered to pay £6,000 and demolish huge extension after building it without permission

Hayes homeowners have been ordered to pay more than £6,000 costs and to pull down a 40-square-metre rear extension they had built without planning permission.   At a hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice last week the owners of the house on Cranmer Road, failed in a bid to appeal a planning notice served to them by Hillingdon Council in March 2022, requiring the large extension be removed.   The court heard the owners didn't acknowledge the notice until May that year, at which point the time period to act on the notice had expired and the period the owners had been given to appeal the notice had expired at the end of April.   The owners opted to challenge the council's actions via judicial review, however as the council had followed all the required protocols and the owners had failed to act, the courts found in the council's favour.   #hayes #demolish #noplanningpermission Read the full article

Ruislip noise-nuisance bar ordered to pay more than £14,000 court costs

The license-holders of a noisy Ruislip bar have been ordered to pay more than £14,000 in court costs after failing to overturn Hillingdon Council's decision to reduce the hours for regulated entertainment on their premises licence.   In January this year, the council's Licensing Sub-Committee agreed to reduce the hours of the bars regulated entertainment, to end at 11pm, following complaints from neighbouring residents of late-night noise dating back to summer 2019.   The licensees initially appealed the council's decision, and the appeal was due to be heard at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court in November but it was abandoned by the licensees after the court dismissed their application to adjourn.   The council then applied for costs and was awarded costs in full by the court, totalling £14,357.50.   #ruislip #noise #latenightnoise #noisenuisance Read the full article

COVID-19 memorial installed to remember Hillingdon residents

Hillingdon Council has unveiled a permanent memorial at Breakspear Crematorium, Ruislip, to remember the borough's residents who have tragically lost their lives to COVID-19.   The calming water feature, which is in the top tier of the site's West Chapel terrace, is two metres high and made from a polished stainless steel-panel and set into a living wall. Higgins Partnerships sign contracts with Hillingdon Council to deliver major regeneration in Hayes
