There was an odd woman in Pittsburgh who wore a big old wind-up alarm clock on a chain around her neck and draped herself always in an ratty old trench coat no matter the weather

She rode the bus barking out loud tales of imaginary events in a phantom war and weaving her fellow riders into the narrative in roles as Nazis or heroes

Sometimes the driver seeing her standing wide eyed and eager for entry onto her stage would slam the door in her face and pull away leaving some of us relieved and others dismayed at the lack of onboard empathy
