A game of UNO can lead to strange places.
Notes: a solo ITPE treat for @reena-jenkins <3 You treated me some Batfam game night shenanigans during Summer Swap, so I thought I'd return the favor!
A few months ago the book Cat Castles was recommended to me; it’s a how-to guide for converting plain boxes into more exciting designs for cats to play in. It’s a little thin on good technique but it is strong on inspiration, and I decided after buying a proper cardboard knife (paradigm-shifting, it’s like nothing I’ve ever used on cardboard before) that I would try engineering a better version of one of their designs. I was also inspired by Polk sitting on the roof of their camper-van box and crushing it completely.
Anyway, above is the the Cat Food Truck, partly assembled (I didn’t take earlier process photos because it would just have looked like a heap of cardboard). I finished it this weekend.
I used plain corrugated cardboard, about half from various shipping boxes and half from the big flat 18x22 sheets that padded the last shipment of poster frames I bought. (If you are in the US and looking for reasonably priced frames btw, FrameUSA has done right by me for years and they just reopened their plant with covid safety measures in place; they’re a union shop based out of Ohio and you could do worse.) As you can see from the top photo, it has internal support columns on the sides to make sure the roof, hood, windshield, and back entry stay firmly attached and that Polk can sit on the roof if she wants without destroying it.
I intend to paint it eventually, I just need to buy some gesso to pre-treat the cardboard first. But do Deebs and Dot even like it?
Polk is a cat on a mission. A mission to sell slightly overpriced food to hipsters.
I made a fruit bat!! With an unintentionally crooked nose!! Fruit bats (like this, the pun kind, not the real bats), are a creation of @clockways / @clockwaysarts who is currently in the process of sculpting the original fruit bat and the cutest dang llama I’ve ever seen

Ignore this I’m doing science
Never!
One of the posts that was flagged for me had a background of the same floor I just posted. Literally all of the posts had flesh tones in them as dominant colors.
Only one of them was That Gif of Chris Evans from What’s Your Number. You know the one where he’s naked in the hallway with only a towel? That Gif.
Also, I want to see how long it takes.
Desperate Times and Desperate Measures
Darcy stopped just inside the door. “Oh my GOD,” she said, her head falling back. “They STILL haven't fixed the heat?”
There was a beat of silence, and then, “No. They have not.”
Darcy tossed her purse at the kitchen counter, letting the door slam behind her. “Okay. Right. We're going to my place.”
“Thanks. No.”
Darcy leaned over to unzip her boots, grinning at nothing in particular. “Harris. You're going to freeze to death. Are you really choosing freezing to death over spending one night under Tony Stark's roof?”
“Let me think about it.” Another moment, then he said, “Yes. Yes, I am.”
“Right,” Darcy said. She didn't bother taking off her hat or her scarf. It wasn't warm enough to warrant it. In her stocking feet, she headed through the kitchen, glancing over at the living room as she walked towards the bedroom. “I'm getting your stuff. And then we're going to my place.”
“No,” the pile of blankets on the couch said.
Rolling her eyes, Darcy headed for the bedroom. Halfway there, she stopped. Did an about face. And scrambled back into the living room. “Are you wearing my jacket?

Monster says maybe this vet is okay.
SO MUCH FOR THAT. Got bit by the other cat. Good times.
3.5 hours, $120, and one terrifying deputy sheriff interview later I am at home and have antibiotics. The antibiotics were $6- the rest was the urgent care visit where all they did was rewarp my wound badly. Vet techs did a far better job.
Bite looks really good though to my eyes. So what happened was my cat had decided to hide in my arms and we left him there for the shots. As first one pulled out he turned to bite to his rear and that’s where my wrist was. He got me with his right fangs and molars. I didn’t even really bleed but it’s some decent punctures because he is a big cat.
Of course this meant me leaving the room and then the other cat freaked the fuck out at the drama and didn’t get his shots. So in ten days we’ll all go back for round two + the vets checking the mandatory state box that my indoor cat who hasn’t seen another pet in 3+ years doesn’t have rabbies and is not behaving oddly. Cat two gets to be mildly drugged for the visit.
Sooo.. that was my day. Hope yours was better. I’m going to go be a slightly sobby ball of miserable now.
