This might sound weird or whiny but: Normalize liking all kinds of moths (this rant mainly is about moths because I love moths but this is applicable to all bugs honestly), not just the “pretty and acceptable ones” like rosy maple moths (although those are good too), like, even the “creepy” or “trashy” ones, I love clothes moths, I love tentacle moths, I love carpet moths, I love all the trashy and ugly and pesky moths not just the cute ones, not just the colorful flashy moths, I love those too but that’s not all I mean when I say I’m a moth enthusiast, I love all moths, they’re all amazing to me. Even mothkins, if you’re moth-adjacent you’re amazing to me and you’re welcome here, even if you’re just a moth enthusiast like me. I love you all(/p), moth family. (By the way, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with liking the bright and fluffy and cute moths, I love those too, I just don’t like when people act like those are the only moths that deserve appreciation) /p /nm /pos

I wish I could telepathically communicate with the clothes moths and tell them which clothes they can munch on. I definitely have something I don't want or that doesn't fit and I'd gladly let them have it if it meant they were eating the clothes that fit. I want a symbiotic relationship with them so bad and I'm not gonna punish them for eating my shirts so I'll just wear shirts with holes.
mmm. Buge
@kaleighbytheway submitted: Hoping to get an ID on this... pupa? Another one had a flying bug fall out of it (my cat got the bug before I could ID it.) Location is the Pacific Northwest.
It's hard to tell from this photo but I'd imagine one of the clothes or case-bearing moths in Tineidae! PNW is too large an area to be more specific about species although it would be easier to ID from an adult anyway.
It's a clothes moth
@wiseheartedloki submitted: These little guys keep showing up in my house! I think they miiight be a moth caterpillar since we also have a lot of moths around, but I’m curious if it can be narrowed down a bit more? The pics aren’t the best, so I might as well describe them? Their cocoons are kinda gray, and they look sort of cream/yellow colored, with a black tip. I can’t tell if it’s at the top, bottom, or both, but it’s most likely both, since I’ve seen them pop out of both ends of the cocoon. If it helps, I live in CA, and I’ve seen these guys pretty much year round? Aaa sorry if that’s a lot. Either way… Bug pics!
It looks to me like a household case-bearing moth larva. They construct cases out of fibers they find in their environment - so in your house that could be from clothes or carpets or even human and pet hair. Their cases can be different colors depending on what kind of fibers they’re collecting for it. They can also be quite destructive as they feed on and make cases from a variety of things around your house, including the examples above and a ton of other things as well. You can certainly google if you’re more interested in learning what could be a potential food item for them.
The dark end is their head but they do have openings at both ends of the case and can turn around inside it. Here’s one in its case!
Adults are very small and nondescript - about 1cm or so long and generally just a beige color:
