Nappies, nappies everywhere.
Cloth nappies… I can not believe how much they have changed since I tried Terry towelling nappies 15 years ago with my eldest! No pins, no folding, no leaving them soaking in a bucket, no frustration. Just slid an insert into the pocket and popper it closed, then rinse off any waste, wring out and place in a dry bucket till wash day! Now I’m not going to lie and say we decided to use them because they are good for the environment, it wasn’t because they are better for little mans skin…. it was cost! For less than £60 we have enough nappies, inserts, wipes and sanitizer to last us till he is potty training. That’s less than 4 months worth of disposable nappies and wipes, making a saving of around £220 in just one year!!! (And thats with us using Asda’s little angel nappies and wipes). Now I know your thinking that the washing side of things is loads of hassle right? It isn’t! I simply rinse any waste off the nappy using the shower head (has better water pressure than the taps in our house), wring them out so they are just damp and place in a dry bucket in the bathroom. Once every three days or so I put them in the washing machine with a bit of nonbio, and some nappy sanitizer, place it on a 40° cotton wash and let the machine do its magic. In nice weather they go on the line, but they can also go on a low heat in the tumble dryer. No harder than doing a normal load of washing really and only costs about 60pence a wash. When it comes to changing time there is really no difference between disposables and these washables, especially if, like me, you size and preload the nappies with the inserts on laundry day. The ones I have are made with a Minky outer layer (very soft and fluffy), which has a waterproof backing to it. The inner layer are a bamboo fabric, as are the inserts. You can get several types of inners and inserts, the two most popular being bamboo and microfiber. We went with bamboo because they are supposed to be better for sensitive skin and have natural antibacterial and odour control properties. I really do wish I had discovered these nappies sooner! As a family we find them so good we have bought some for my 2 ½ year old for night times and trips out, and have bought her potty training pants that are made in a similar fashion! She says they are soooo comfy. :) I also mentioned cloth wipes earlier, however, I will leave them for another post as I have a few wipe solution recipes I would like to share with you as well, and this post is already begining to ramble on a little too much. If you would like to know more about the nappies I use, the brand or my supplier, please feel free to ask. X Speak again soon! Joanne. 💋
