Yesterday, little munchkin was already a week old! She’s pretty perfect and we couldn’t be more in love. I am so lucky my wife is off work for a bit, she’s the reason we can all get some sleep and haven’t yelled at each other.
Lots happened since discharge. We had her tongue tie cut on the 25th and she can finally stick it out past her lower gum line. She still hasn’t been latching well, we’ve seen 2 lactation consultants, first on Thursday was helpful, suggested a shield and to keep encouraging her but confirmed she had lost a bit of weight again. Then second today, she had lost a little bit again so we tried a smaller shield since baby girl has a TINY mouth. It helped and we’ve been using that since with better results but still not great.
We’ve switched from the tube feed top ups to just plain bottles. Clearly the tubes were still too much work for her and as much as I didn’t want to risk our BF relationship, I couldn’t put her in harms way. (Birth 7lb 8oz, now 6lb 14oz, smallest was day 2 at 6lb 12oz) She’s doing better, go back to LC #1 on Tuesday and hope she’s put on some weight!
NB clothes are even still a bit big on her, even some NB diapers are. All the diapers we swiped from the hospital have been gone through, now working on freebies from Huggies etc. I hate seeing how much garbage we’re making but she’s so tiny and we’re so tired we can’t switch to our cloth yet. Soon.
