Today (Saturday): A cold front is working its way toward us from the west. This means increasingly cloudy skies, although it’s not impossible we see prolonged sunshine early in the day. The first of the clouds are high and mid-level, so some sun should make it through even as skies turn milkier with time. It’s warm out ahead of the front, with highs reaching the upper 60s and lower 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Odds of rain climb more readily as the sun goes down. Anything substantial should hold off until late at night, but showers go from possible to likely as we head from early evening into late night. Lows should make the 50s most spots, but perhaps only the 60s closer to the bay. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): This is one of those days where high temperatures happen near midnight. Readings seem likely to fall in much or all of the area through the day as a coastal storm system wraps up and eventually passes. At least periodic showers and rain are likely for the whole day and perhaps of increased intensity during the afternoon into evening. As noted, temperatures are falling through the 50s most spots. Well east of town may stay closer to 60 if the storm passes very close. As you head west, it might make the 40s before sunset. Wind picks up as well. It is sustained at 10 to 15 mph early in the day and increases to 20 to 30 mph late, with gusts past 40 likely in the evening through early overnight. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: A heavier period of rain may occur as early as afternoon, with that potential lasting into the evening and early overnight before the storm starts to wrap up. This is if the storm strengthens quick enough to allow precipitation to expand over our area. About an inch of rain seems a good general target for a storm total, with some locations potentially ending up with two or more. Winds are sustained around 20 to 30 mph with gusts past 40 mph through the hours around midnight then tapering somewhat into dawn. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

There’s a strong chance the sun is breaking back out by Monday morning. If rain lingers, it should be out of here pretty quickly. Skies end up crisp and clear. We’ve still got hefty breezes in the storm’s wake, although they will continue to taper off during the day. High temperatures are in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Confidence: Medium

It’s a classic mid-fall day on Halloween Tuesday. A seasonable start in the upper 30s to mid-40s turns into a cool but sunny day. Highs are right around 60. Trick-or-treat weather should be generally worry-free. Skies are likely to be clear, and temperatures are cool. A breeze may persist, but it should weaken with time. Confidence: Medium
