D: ‘How’d that come to happen? I wasn’t aware that the Dalish used Common names.’

C: “It’s not… traditional, no, but it was something I started going by while trading with independent hunters and merchants skirting close to our camps. At first I used it to… put some distance between my actions and my clan.’

D: ‘Is Clan Lavellan so avoidant of humans?’

C: ‘It was more an issue with my… attitude, with how readily I, uh, interacted with outsiders. But it was helpful, me having experience and contacts outside the Dalish. Keeper Deshanna started calling me var’alaslen – ‘our child of the earth’ – teasing me for the nickname. I’m stuck with it now. Which works well enough for me, given the circumstances.’

D: ‘Who knew you were ever so sociable! But then is there not some other name you’d prefer we call you? If only amongst friends or colleagues.’

C: [laughs] ‘Ha! If ‘friends and colleagues’ includes Sera and Blackwall, then for all our sakes, no. Do you know what the elvhen is for ‘a gift of arrows’? Enasalanassan. Could you imagine?’
