Tallyrand, Burbank, CA
The Tallyrand is a restaurant that’s spoken about in revered tones by many of my colleagues at Disney. Located close to our offices in Burbank, it’s a classic American diner where our fellow cast members have been eating for decades...
When you walk in, it does feel like you’ve stepped back in time to the day they opened. I love that they still maintain their classic lunch counter in front of the open kitchen...
I was told that if I ever went, I MUST TRY the Tallyrand turkey, as that’s what they’re famous for. They actually roast 200 lbs. of turkey A DAY! So how could I pass it up? Not wanting a full meal for lunch, I ordered their roast turkey sandwich with mixed meat, light and dark...
Smothered in gravy, topped with mashed potatoes, served with a side of cranberry sauce, it was Thanksgiving in the valley in July. The bread was a bit dry, even soaked in sauce, but the turkey was perfect!!
I also got a plate of their “famous” chicken tenders with homemade apricot chutney...
Nothing to write home about here though, I’m sorry to say.
My colleagues who joined me opted out of turkey, instead enjoying burgers and pastrami sandwiches, and everything that hit the table was tasty. We left satisfied without putting too much of a dent in our wallets.
Not sure I’d recommend rushing out to try the Tallyrand if you’re not in the area, but if you happen to find yourself in Burbank, it’s worth checking out for the history of the restaurant alone. Especially if you get one of the wonderful waitresses who’ve been there since the start and can regale you with tales of from days gone by.
