you wouldn't perhaps be up for another cartinelli prompt? :) dialogue prompt “I'm trying to propose, woman!“, would be really great :D
46. “I’m trying to propose, woman!“ -thanks @awblake i didn’t know which era to set this in tbh but i’ll stick with some modern for now
Peggy is reading the newspaper when she sees a small blip in the politics section. When Peggy looks up she sees Angie sitting across the table reading lines for her latest production without a care in the world. It brings a smile to her face.
“Angie,” Peggy begins slowly, taking a sip of her tea.
“Mm?” Angie doesn’t look up from her script.
“What do you think of Boston in the fall?”
Angie narrows her eyes instantly, her lips screwed up with distaste. “Unless the Yankees are in town, it’s awful.”
Peggy snorts. “You honestly think that? I hear it’s beautiful that time of year.”
Angie grabs her cup of coffee. “The whole northeast is beautiful in the fall, but why would I go to Boston when we’ve got New York City?”
Peggy purses her lips, not knowing how to broach the topic further. “I mean, don’t you think it’d be a nice change of pace? They’re quite progressive up there.”
“They are but we are too and we’ve got the freaks at least,” Angie takes a huge gulp of her coffee, “better than the stuffy WASPs up there.”
“I’ve heard though that there’s a community out there for us.” Angie raises an eyebrow. “Quite prominent really. Just recently–”
“Come on, English, we’ve got a great gay community here,” Angie tries to wave off. “It’s still working itself out but we’ve already got one here.”
“But–”
“Just because Boston’s got one doesn’t make it any better than ours–”
“Angie, please!” Peggy finally stops her girlfriend from speaking. “I’m trying to propose!”
Angie pauses mid sentence with a stunned look on her face. “What?”
“Boston’s legalized same sex marriage,” Peggy says folding the newspaper to hand to her girlfriend. “I was thinking maybe we could get married.”
Angie takes the paper skeptically to read the section that Peggy shows her. Peggy waits patiently as Angie’s eyes scan the lines. It only takes a moment before her eyes soften and she lets out a sigh of disbelief.
“So what do you think?” Peggy timidly asks. “Would you like to marry me?”
Angie looks up at Peggy with a warm look. “I guess I could suffer one weekend in Boston with you.”
