Okay, while I admit that the whole ‘neutral-evil tyrant’ aspect to Caenis’ character in FGO adds an interesting discussion about the cycle of violence and so on and so forth despite being almost entirely pulled out of FGO’s proverbial ass, the ‘king’ aspect literally makes no sense if you do any actual research. As in, you do one google search related to Caeneus and/or the Centauromachy and realize ‘hey... he literally could not have been a king at any point’.

Because there is no logical period where Caeneus would have been able to rule as ‘King of the Lapiths’. Because guess what? We know who the ruling King of the Lapith’s was during Caeneus’ lifetime, and that was Pirithous, right after Ixion. Because Caeneus died literally during Pirithous’ wedding. Famously. There was a whole thing about it. Theseus was there. Everybody knows Theseus.

Because while he wasn’t a king, Caeneus was the son of a chieftain, Elatus, which can only be assumed to be something different than a king in the context of the Lapith clan. Most likely a high-ranking member of said clan, in the simplest sense. Additionally, he was recorded to be a Thessalian prince, as in the child of a respected noble within the Lapith clan, but not a king at any point. There’s a dedicated bloodline to the rulers of the Lapithae, and Caeneus was not directly part of it.

I don’t know. Maybe ‘Tyrant Prince’ didn’t give off the right punch that Nasu wanted.
