Dude is just trying to get back to his family while also dealing with the grief and trauma of losing his wife. He can't see his family because if he tries to enter the US he will be caught and arrested. He's still so in love with his wife and so guilt ridden over her death that the memory of her literally permeates every part of his subconscious, manifesting in his dreams. I know he's not a perfect saint, but this man needs a hug more than anything.
