Making some new clothes for the king

(Aka what if I use my cobweb handspun for weaving maybe?? We are encountering many a tangle and a broken thread)

After seeing @orchardknit 's beautiful handmade supported spindles I decided I had to make my own! One thing led to another, and before long I realized maybe I could knit a wedding ring shawl with the alpaca fiber I had sitting around at home. Alas, this spindle is not a handwhittled creation because I only was able to go home for a brief period for Easter so modifying my cheap little homemade turkish spindle was faster, but once the semester ends I'm definitely trying my hand at the whittling!

This spindle didn't spin for very long at the beginning but it's getting better with more weight and better flicking technique! The spindle fills up so slowly with yarn this fine *pauses to measure wpi, loses count repeatedly* I think it's around 80 wpi though? Maybe more, my eyes were struggling.

*realizes I could have just marked out an inch long segment of the spindle shaft (bamboo kitchen skewer) and counted the wraps as I put them on to fill the inch segment*

I'm really enjoying the portability of spindling, I was able to pull out my little spindle and espresso cup spindle bowl while I was waiting around at my mock audition yesterday in studio class and I also cannot wait to spend some time in the sunshine spinning because we're having lovely weather this week!

I intend to make the Queen Susan Shawl, which is a lovely free pattern on ravelry with a great story behind it's creation, so 8 miles of singles, lovingly spun, here I come!

most of the time my adhd-induced inability to know if something is remotely feasible or not is a nightmare, but sometimes it means that i find out that the best shetland spinners, with years of experience and purpose built equipment could spin yarns as fine as 5 strands to a single and go "hey, i wonder how fine a single I could spin with an hour to kill and this spindle i just made out of a bamboo skewer and a plastic bottle cap?"

(so far the answer is about 8 strands)

Calling my knitting and spinning mutuals!

It’s been about a month since I last held some needles in my hands and I’m getting antsy. I’d like to make something with this homespun I made last year. It’s not plyed, the thickest is about the width of ten hairs (pictured) and the thinnest about half of that. The little swatch there was knit up on my smallest circulars, which are 2 1/4s. 30 stitches across and along (and I forgot to stretchy bind off so that’s the only reason it’s a parallelogram rather than rectangle!) which works out at 7x5 or 9x7 (cm) when stretched fully. 50wpi, yardage unknown. 🙈

I’m thinking arm warmers. Good idea?

The spinning journey continues! I plied the single I had, because I bought the needles for the project and I really wanted to get swatching!

It came out to around 67 yards, still haven't counted wpi on the plied yarn but the singles were somewhere around 80

I gave the yarn a bath in the espresso cup I've been using as a spindle bowl because it was adorable

I accidentally added a poll to my post and couldn't figure out how to delete it so I'll ask about your favorite geometric shape so it'll let me post without having to redo everything
